ticking away fine

I am onto my 2nd pacemaker now and have no problems with it really except for trapped wind sometimes underneath it which is a bit painful.
joked with my consultant when i was on the op table and was actually off the machines and pacing myself even though it was faint i managed to keep it going until the new pacemaker was implanted.
I have a gold plated pacemaker because i am allergic to titanium which when I had my first one implanted in 2004 from the hospital in Kirkcaldy, Fife, Scotland just over the forth road bridge they had to source a gold plated one. Finding that there were only 2 available in the world one in America and one in Holland myself and a few nurses stated we would go and get it.
Now onto my 2nd gold plated one and i have the 1st one at home with me now I am pacing fine and proud of the work my consultant and his team for looking after me.
I just would like anyone who is going to be implanted that yes it does sound scary when you find out you will be awake when its implanted but do what i did have a laugh and joke with your doctor and nurses and i assure you everything wont seem half as bad when they tell you that they are done. You will then be part of a club that knows what you are going through and can help in any way they can.

At age 20, I will be getting a pacemaker in few weeks along with an SA node ablation. This opportunity may change a five year prognosis into a normal life span! I look forward to being a little old lady with a wicked cane!
