Do pacemakers have a self check function? I had my pacemaker replaced earlier this year. At 10.45pm every night I get a brief series of heartbeats that feel as if they are being made by my pacemaker. Is this normal?

I'm 3 months into my PM implant (PPM Proponent, dual chamber) and have been receiving periodic burst of what I would describe as an electric shock in middle of my chest which goes on for 10- 20 seconds, slightly painful and makes you want to cough. Mentioned the symptoms to nurse during first 6 week check. She didn't seem concerned but I was wondering if anyone else had this issue and if it was rectified. Have asked for appointment with PM cardiologist.
Have learned to much from this community already, many thanks.

Most of them do, it may or may not be turned on but it sounds like it is! I'd ask them to change the time so it's when you're sleeping, or possibly turn it off if you don't need it.
