Hello everyone,
It's been a longgggg while since I last posted. Thinking of everyone.
The last time I wrote I was about to pursue another opinion out of state (closer to home) regarding my SVC obstruction. I went to a major teaching hospital known for taking "tough" cases.
Well, I went in September. Met with a vascular surgeon who decided not to make any recommendations right away, but to consult with several of his colleagues about my case. (understandable).
Over 5 weeks later in late October, the doctor contacted me to tell me that they couldn't help me; they didn't have the expertise I needed (after 5 weeks?). They suggested I might try anticoagulants, but that was it. I was referred to Cleveland Clinic instead. Unfortunately, I can't just get up, go to Cleveland and have a procedure. I just don't have the resources to cover it all. For now, I have been able to arrange an appointment in Cleveland, but only for a consult at this point. The appointment is in December. I also have not been able to begin any anticoagulation yet either. Until then, I am attempting to handle this nutritionally.
In the meantime, I am still walking around with my SVC in the same condition and my arm still swollen. The pain is off and on.
These docs are something else. Hope everyone is hanging in there.

HI Sharon! About the CC
by Dodiad71 - 2007-11-14 08:11:15
I actually have an appointment for a consultation at the CC in December, but a consult only.
I live in NE Illinois, north of Chicago and a few minutes from Wisconsin. A trip by car to Cleveland from here would be about 7 hours long. I have considered driving, but I am concerned about the gas prices. Aside from that, I also would be going alone. I do not have anyone to go with me. So I have a lot of things to weigh and think about.
I hope this answers your question(s). It was nice to hear from you again!

At age 20, I will be getting a pacemaker in few weeks along with an SA node ablation. This opportunity may change a five year prognosis into a normal life span! I look forward to being a little old lady with a wicked cane!

Hi Dodi,
It has been a long time since we have heard from you. I don't get on as often as I used to and miss it! Is there any way at all you could possibly get to the Cleveland Clinic? As you know they are known for their expertise in Cardiology. Where do you live and what kind of distance is it to CC for you?
