Haven't been on this sight for awhile, but decided to drop back in. A couple yr. ago my then 15yr old son Ryan had to have emergency surgery because of a defected Boston Scientific pacemaker, that was a horrible scare, of course Ryan came through it better then mom. Today he had his battery checked and it's saying a year or less, so here we go again! Sure wish this got easier but it doesn't I'm already stressing . Ryan just turned 17 on 10-10-14 but to me he's my baby. He had to have 5 open heart surgeries by the time he was 2, and received his PM at 15mn. think I'd be use to this by now, they told us this PM would only last 2-3 years due to the leads have slipped and need to be re-positioned which they will do this upcoming change, couldn't do it before as a special Dr. with special tools was not availible during his emergency surgery. Just pray he doesn't need it changed too soon . Bless all you kids and teen on here your a very special gift from God !!

I really hope the battery last longer. I also had to open heart surgeries as a baby. I had to holes in the heart. I had my first PM at 23. I am 46 now and on my 3rd one. I also have a Boston. Had it put in in 2009. So far so good with mine. My first one was a St. Jude and it lasted the longest; 2nd was a medtronic, which lasted have the time as the St. Jude. Hopefully the Boston last awhile. Do not look forward to those sugeries as well as your son probably doesnt. Question though; have they thought of putting in a different kind of PM?
thanks for the kind words

Thanks for the well wishes for my boy Ryan, he actually did have another type of pacer before it was a medtronic (I'm sure I spelled it wrong) but his Cardiologist wanted him to get a pacer w/ a defibulator so they put in the boston scientific. Funny your 46 Fontanamen so am I... Ryan actually started his surgeries at 10 weeks, he had over 22 holes in his heart and missing a valve, but Praise God his heart is doing great, just battery re-placements now but stll not easy ! Thank you all for the kind words

Good luck to him and hopefully his new one will last longer. At least you were warned that his current one wouldn't last long I had to get a new lead over the summer before one of mine was messed up and my pm weren't lasting long. Hoping for better luck now.
