Monitors.

Hi everyone,
Do any of you have home monitors or the ones that attach to a mobile (cell)phone to tell if you are in Afib or not?
Seen them for sale of Amazon and free in USA. Are they worth the $100 or so $'s I would have to pay?
I think I know when I am in Afib but it would be nice to be sure.
Still having problems re medications clashes.
Rheumatoid arthritis meds do not go well with anti coagulants. At the moment still using Flecanide 50 (pill in pocket) approach another if needed and I take a soluble aspirin in hot water at same time.
Dr's all arguing as what to do re new anticoags or Warfarin or nothing.....yet. Any advice appreciated.
thanks
Lizzie

AliveCor

Hi Lizzie!

Do you mean the "AliveCor" device? I think it's neat, but don't know anyone who has it, yet. Would be interesting to find out if anyone here has one.

On a different note: Aspirin won't prevent a stroke when you are in Afib. In fact, it's as effective in doing so as a placebo. See for instance:

http://www.stopafib.org/newsitem.cfm/NEWSID/412/Dr-Albert-Waldo/aspirin-not-effective-for-atrial-fibrillation-stroke-prevention

http://www.escardio.org/about/press/press-releases/pr-14/Pages/aspirin-overprescribed-stroke-afib.aspx?hit=dontmiss

You definitely need to get on something more effective, if you continue to have Afib episodes. In case you cannot take any of the new anticoagulants, maybe a "left atrial appendage closure" is an option for you? I suggest that you google this. It's a device placed in the left atrium and it kind of "seals" the left atrial appendage, where most of the blood clots form. Once it's sealed, the blood clots can no longer travel from the heart to the brain.

Best wishes

Inga

monitors

home monitors are usually provided by the pm company. they sent me one, but I do not have a land line phone. they can set me up with a cell phone version for $9.95 a month, I try to keep my budget trim and do not wish this addition ridiculous expense. (let make 'em pay attitude is silly considering how much the pacemakers (temp. and perm) cost me the monitor should be a monthly fee at least not that much. I appreciate the need to make money, but, geez.
