I can't sleep
Ok here it goes, On January 18th 2008 the Doctor placed a Defibrillator in my chest and I had my first shock a week ago. I was young, active and happy with a itte fatigue. Now I am SAD, ANGRY, AFRAID and SORE. If there is anybody out there that help me make through this next hour. I need help.... My family members are helpless and tonight I keep crying and I can,t sleep....
ICD to PM "Downgrade"?
Howdy,
Wow two posts in one day I need to get a life! ;-) Anyway I keep meaning to ask has anyone ever had an ICD removed an replaced with a PM because over time it was determined that the ICD was never doing anything but pacing the heart? A follow up question is has anyone ever had a PM removed because there heart somehow started pacing normally again?
I'm going to guess no to both as Doctors may never want to put themselves is a position where they might become liable if...

Well this is my first posting. I got icd planted in my chest on Jan 17 and I have not had any problems. Just itches a little bit around the edges. I have been short of breath for several years of smoking stupid I know. I haven't had one sence Jan 15. The only real question I want to know is does anyone make a remote for this thing, if they do please don't tell my wife she wants one so she zap me like dog with a shock collar. LOL

What are the implications of having an Advance Medical Directive that specifies Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) and having an ICD that does exactly that. I realize that the the defibrillator used my EMT's is more powerful and therefore different than the ICD. I'm thinking more about intent. Could medical facility conclude that since the person consented to the ICD that there is a question about their intent and decide it was better to resuscitate and ask questions late...

I NEED TO TALK WITH SOME YOUNGER PEOPLE WHO CAN RELATE. I JUST CANT GET USED TO THIS THING AND ALL THE RESTRICTIONS THAT COME ALONG WITH IT. I NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD HAVE TO DEAL WITH ALL THIS PAIN AND LIMITATIONS THAT COME ALONG WITH IT. I ALWAYS THOUGHT THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN TO OLD PEOPLE. WHAT NOW??? CAN ANYBODY RELATE???

hey thanks for all the tips i do apreciate them. yep surgery no big deal but not driving or doing anything for 2 weeks is the tough part. I was a cop but now they say i cant do that and shouldnt be around transmiting equipment..or powers tools etc...etc... so what do you do if you cant do anything else..Im not complaining just wondering what is next?????
lead migration
i had a three-wire pacemaker-defib st. jude unit implanted feb. 18, 2008. at my 2-week checkup, the company reps had hard time finding the pacing feature.
doctor said one of the wires had migrated inside the heart vein and i wasn't getting the pacing feature. i'm scheduled to return to have this lead either pushed further into the vein or removed and have another one put in.
my question: why didn't they fix this problem when i was in hospital? i stayed overnight after the implant. the...

Scuba Diving with ICD - some errors in information
I found some posts here which I followed up on. They were concerning diving (scuba) with an ICD. One poster had found information from another web site (which I verified) stating that the St Jude ICD was rated to 230 feet (70 meters) of hyperbaric pressure. I called St Judes and they claim 3 atmospheres (which is 66 feet !!).

I am about to have a biventricular ICD implanted and was wondering if anyone has any experience with feeling the ventricular pacing that occurs during Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy? I currently have a two lead ICD, and can feel the right ventricle pace. My doctor said there is a possibility that the pacing could be felt, and also that it could stimulate the diaphram. Would appreciate any information you have.

My Story (Kinda long)
I had a pacemaker/defib inserted back in 2003. This past December, after receiving the famous Medtronic Recall notice, I visited with my doctor concerning the recall. The office read my pacemaker and there is a particular code that it reads (not sure what it was) and they are looking for a reading greater than 1,200 to indicate that there is a fracture in the lead. Tomorrow I am having my ICD changed after 5 years and had been told that the new one will give me between 8 to 10 years, (obviously depend)
Actauly now I am looking forward to go through it and go on with my life as I did after each change, This is going to be my second ICD after three pacers.

Are we allowed to make the decision not to get our pacemakers replaced when the batter wears out? I was asked this by a friend and did not know the answer.
