I'm new to the club and looking for information on post ICD placement limitations. My initial placement was in 2000. In 2005 I had a malfunction and my device was replaced. In 2006 it was determined that I again had a problem with the leads and the new device was moved to my right side with new leads, one obviously stretching across my upper chest. I have a congenital heart defect and the device does not actually pace very often. I recently told my EP that I was doing yoga and he looked at me li...

I feel like my PM is too close to my arm pit. I workout usualy 5x a week. I am 23 years old and should be okay with lifting. Sometimes it just hurts too much. I lifted this morning and I feel like I pulled a muscle in my chest. My doctor told me it was okay to lift as long as its not "too much". Does anyone have the same problem? Also, I am large breasted and when I take off my bra, my left breast hurts at the top. I have done my medtronic phone scans and my doctor says it looks fine.

OK sports fans! Here are my results for my most recent Masters Swim meet in Pointe Claire QC, January 29th.
400 m freestyle: 1st in my age group @ 6:58.12;
200 m breaststroke: 2nd in my age group @ 3:52.72;
200 m IM: 2nd in my age group @ 3:49.83;
100 m butterfly: 2nd in my age group @ 2:04.35.
Swimmers who know their stuff may not be impressed with that last result, but in my age group, anybody attempting to do 100 meters in butterfly should have their head examined pa...

I'm bringing this up for clarification and to bring it to the attention of PM newbies.
Most of us have been told to limit upper body exercises such as military presses, especially repetitive and with heavy weight. Never the less, many here do quite a bit of exercise and activity and seem to be fine with it.
Can we have an in depth discussion explaining exactly what exercises people do and what they avoid? It's been awhile and maybe there are some new ideas.
How do you keep your s...

Hi everyone. I haven't been on in a while and hope all are doing okay. I have a quick question regarding exercising.
I recently purchased a Shake Weight as advertised on television, and I was wondering if anyone has tried it and if it caused any problems on the pacemaker side. I am a few days short of my one year anniversary with my new friend. I still have some nerve damage with pain on my arm and at the site.
Any feedback about this exercise equipment would be greatly a...

Sounds like we have a few climbers on this forum, GREAT!
I had my defib implanted in late 2007 and after a couple years of sliding out of shape, I am back training with the goal to compete in the 24 Hours of Horseshoe Hell. A 24 hour lead climbing competition in Arkansas, September 2011.
I am looking for a partner for this event, the three categories are 5.4- 5.9 / 5.9-510D and 5.11 - 5.12+. The event encourages climbers of different abilities to team up, so it doesnt m...

Hello All~
I recently had my pacemaker installed and should have exercise clearance on Feb 11th. I am looking to go back and play pick up soccer like I was playing before I got my pacemaker installed. Can any of you think of anything protective I can do for that area on my chest were the device is?
Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you all.

Could anyone help me with information about pacemaker placement. I am pretty thin and the pacemaker really seems to stick out. Sometimes if I am really active with my upper body the pacemaker site becomes red, sore, and irritated. The Dr said he would move it to a better site under the muscle. Does anyone have experience with a relocated pacemaker pocket and the benefits or not of having it under muscle?
Thanks,
Tom

I am a 73 y/o female who had a pacemaker put in about 5 months ago. Is that ok to get whole body massages at Day spa? are there any pressure points to be avoided ? They are asking for a doctors clearance and letter to do so.
Thank you,
Karnavati

Well, I did it. I rode my bicycle today. I had an ablation back in Aug, and another in late Dec. I haven't felt much like doing anything since the ablation in Aug. Today is the first day I felt energetic enough to get on the bike.
I rode a grand total of 7 miles, with no hills. Within a block after I started riding, noticed my Garmin HR monitor told me my heart was beating around 180bpm. It did eventually settle out at around 115bpm.
I'm not sure if I should be alarm...

I went skiing this morning for a few hours to test my heart and pacemaker. Both worked great even in the extreme cold, but I need to build up some strength in my legs. They felt like rubber. I guess lying around for a couple months caugth up with me.
I start back to work Monday. I plan to work half days this week to ease me back into the daily grind.
Cheers,
Blake

I have never been able to get a clear answer to the question....
Does the amount of activity a person engages in have any effect
on the life of a pacemaker. or if you are very active, does that
decrease the life of the pacemaker?

In two days I will have had my PM for 8 months. I just booked a trip to Colorado with my husband and some close friends, and would really love to go snowboarding with everyone. Does anyone know if this safe? Or more specifically has anyone actually been with a PM? I live in Alabama, and only go once a year. So I am by no means an expert, but I do enjoy going. And would be sad to give it up. If anyone could shed some light on the situation, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks in advance, Anna

Hi I'm new to this group though I had my pacemaker fitter is 2008. My problem is that the lack of information I can get about exercise and what I should expect from my pacemaker. I know it is an "on demand" type but to be honest even though my check ups have said everything is fine with it, I never seem to be able to get it to increase from the 60 bpm it is set at and consequently get out of breath very quickly. Can anyone give me advice or suggest where I can receive some advice? The gym I...

When I got my Defib. implanted in 5/2010 I wanted to monitor
my heart rate while running. I first purchased a Sportline Dou Heart
Rate Monitor watch with chest strap. I found this watch to be
ineffective nearly every time I used it. The heart rate readings
were constantly jumping up and producing inacurate readings.
This watch may work for runners without PM /defib., but not those
with an implanted device.

I had an ICD implanted in September 2010. As soon as I got home, I realized that I got out of breath a lot faster than I did before. Still do after four months. Just going up a flight of stairs makes me breathe harder than before, and walking takes more of a toll than it ever did. My cardiologist was surprised; he said my lungs seemed fine He just told me to keep doing exercise, but not to overdo. I'm 77 and play tennis. The Boston Scientific rep couldn't find a problem, either, and opined...

Apart from the protection of a Pacemaker, will automatic ski pass readers affect a pacepaker? in European resorts most are waist to shoulder high on your left with your pass placed in left jacket pocket, small sleeve wrist pocket being the best option.

Hi,
I'm a mom of a 6 year old with a pacemaker. His pacemaker was implanted when he was 1 day old. Now that he is getting older and more active in sports, I'm really worried his pacemaker. I was wondering if anyone had info on a protective vest that he could wear. His pacer is still in his abdomen. My husband & I made him one with an old t-shirt and a football pad. He played t-ball last spring and wants to play again this year. I would like to find one that gave me more piece...

Hello everyone,
I will be receiving my pacemaker implant in a few days; I normally run around 18-20 miles a week. Would like to know from other folks when they were able to resume running ? Also wanted to know how long did it take to go back(1 week , 2 weeks or 2 months) to running at the same speed for the same distance?

I'm 35 and got my pacemaker a little over a year ago. It definitely is not a burden to me. In fact, I have more energy (which my husband enjoys), can do more things with my kids and have weight because of having the energy.
