Pulmonary Function Test

Altho it has yet to happen, my heart failure cardiologist wants me to have a Pulmonary Function Test.  My visit to Rochester's Mayo Clinic last year (for hematology and cardiology) resulted in the easy 6 - min and 11 - min "walks" on a treadmill. No issues were reported.  After having my Iliotibial band successfully treated a few months ago, I've resumed 3 to 4 mile stints on the treadmill at 3 to 3.5 mph. A Spirometry test 18 months ago showed only "mild...

Tachycardia after pacemaker placement ??

Is this common ?? Seems like heart rate is pretty labile. 60s at night and while sleeping. 75-95 sitting, mild moving around bit will sometimes stay up in the high 90s for quite some time. Post op day 6 today.

Also notice it jumps up and some dizziness if I do any form of exertion.

Is this something they tweet when I go a check up ?

Normal to have this for a while ??

RE Introduction

Good evening all. Hope you’re all well? I’m a 52 year old female living in the UK.  I learned on Tuesday that I require an urgent pacemaker inserting after a 24-hour electrocardiograph has shown Mobitz Type 2 Anterioventricular Heart Block.  My head has been reeling since receiving the news tbh. The procedure itself doesn’t really bother me; I’ve had worse, e.g. hip replacements but I’m really scared what the heart MRI might turn up.  Surely t...

Site tender, left upper arm has dull muscle pain. Still very tired :-(

I am 54 yrs old and had a pacemaker placed 5 weeks ago today. I have tenderness at the incision site also upper left arm dull pain. Also tired still! I am planning to go back to work my fear is it's not healed enough and being tired won't be good either. I am also on Sotalol a low dose. Monitoring my heart rate and I am at 60-61 but I have gone down to 52 then up to 56-58 then 60 is this a normal way this pacemaker should work? this is not all the time just now and then.

Metal detectors in shopping malls, schools

I am pacemaker dependent and cringe evrytime I approach the metal detectors in public access buildings. I am uncertain if airport security metal detectors are more or less likely to affect my pacemaker. Are the metal detectors in shopping center, schools, municipality and govt. buildings a threat to my ICD? I have a card that I can show, to circumvent the detectors, but do I need to avoid these devices and be subjected to near strip searches every time I go through the front door of a public...

Why can't patients have ongoing access to their pacemaker reports?

I don't understand why patients cannot access a report on their pacemaker activities to determine if anything out of the ordinary is going on.

I bet more people would live if this kind of medical monopoly that excludes the patient was changed.

I hesitate to call my doctor when I feel lightheaded because I know how long I'll have to wait to get through the switchboard. Then, I have to wait for someone else to respond. The whole process can take days.

If it's nothi...

Pacemaker and pregnancy

I have lived with a heart condition my whole life. After open heart surgery as a child, I lived relatively normally, albeit with leakage and heart block. It does not typically affect my life though as I am very active and run marathons.

At my most recent yearly check-up, my husband and I informed my cardiologist that we want to start a family. The doctor told us he wanted to first run some tests to see how my heart would hold up to the stress that pregnancy brings. I passed all the test...

C1 driving license (HGV)

Hi all,

Im 22 and I just graduated as a Paramedic. I was due to start my job but for this I have to do a C1 driving test. I sent off for a provisional license from the DVLA but they have now had my license for 8 weeks. Due to this I have had to delay my intake with the ambulance service to start my job. The DVLA have contacted my consultant and apparently now the DVLA doctors are deciding if I am fit to drive larger vehicles. I am a bit scared as if they say no I cant start my job as a...

Where to get ID card?

Hey everyone,

So I've had a Pacemaker since I was little, and I turned 18 last year, but I never got a new ID card(since my old one says child/underage/dependent). I've never really needed to use my ID card before, but I feel like I should get a new one. And I don't have anyone to talk to about this since my mom died in June. I called my cardiologists office about it but all they told me was that I need to call the company, but I'm not sure what information I'll need...

Cardiomyopathy & Ventricular Tachycardia

Back in April 2016, I gave birth to my sweet baby boy. My first baby. 2 months later I had gotten really sick. I was coughing up blood & having shortness of breath. I immediately went to the ER. Of course, did xrays and other tests & that's when I found out I had postpartum cardiomyopathy. My OB & Cardiologist both recommended that I get on birth control right away because it was too risky for me to go through another pregnancy. And so I did because I was so scared that if I d...

FATIQUE (year+ after implant)

I am over 1 and 1/2 years post 2-lead pacemaker implant.  Last device check showed it was working as intended.  However; in the past 6 weeks I have suddenly developed extreme fatique.  For example, I went to bed early last night (9:30ish) and slept through to 7:15 this morning, with only 3 or 4 awake periods that I remember.  This morning I was completely fatiqued by 10:30 and by 12:00 I had to nap.  I woke up felling a little more energy, but by 1:30 was extremely fa...
