future occupations

I am a 16 year old who was required to have an ICD implanted last April. Obviously this has placed some restrictions on occupations I'm able to pursue. My original plan was to enlist in the military but this is no longer an option. I have recently taken an interest in law and was wondering if it would be possible to become a police officer. The device was implanted as a precautionary measure against Brugada Syndrome a condition which can cause arrhythmias. I've never had an incident requir...

25 y.o with Bradycardia + Arrhythmia. Help needed.

After frequent running this year I started to feel dizzy at rest. Cardiologist soon found out my resting heart rate after these runs was too slow, coming down to as low as 25bmp! After 3 days resting in hospital the heart rate elevated and the arrhythmia became less of a problem. I have been in hospital twice this year and by the end of the 3/4 days the situation went from critical to just being sent home. The brady and arrhythmia is still present expect I am not symptomatic until ive gone for a...

Limitations

I am so new I don't have the installation date yet, but I was informed I would have to limit my weight lifting on the side of the implant. Also, mobility would be limited and I shouldn't raise my arm above my head. Anyone have any knowledge about this after the chest implant?

How to select a new EP?

The EP who implanted my device is in another state. I'd like to find a good EP near my home. I'm told by my cardiologist that I need another ablation and possibly a different PM. Getting data on procedures (no. done by the doctor and outcome) is daunting and my cardiologist's office said to call individual hospitals. I want someone who is knowledgeable, with experience as well as gentle and who will work with me as a partner in making decisions.

Like many of us, my first EP selectio...

Pacemaker procedures

Frank,
You're the only one I know of that's similar to me and has their pacemaker procedures done with only a shot of lidocaine.

I like physicians who listen to their patients, and thank goodness my EP is one of them. He said, "just remind me, and tell the anesthesia nurse that you'd like to 'go light'". That's the way it was for my first implant and the way it's been for each one after that.

My EP is just 8 years older than I am and we're both musicians so we usuall...

Capital Letters and technology

Capital Letters? Who uses them anymore? ..... A teachers explanation

From a teacher -- short and to the point.

In the world of hi-tech gadgetry, I've noticed that more and more people who send text messages and e-mails have long forgotten the art of capital letters. For those of you who fall into this category, please take note of the following statement:

"Capitalization is the difference between helping your Uncle Jack off a horse and helping your uncle jack...

lead extraction update

Due to infection of a 5 yr icd, I had the entire works removed.
It will be replaced shortly after the infection is cured with antibiotics.
Due to the complicated and risky nature of this procedure, I chose Brigham and Womens Hospital of Boston Mass. Dr. Laurence Eppstein,MD,EP. over my local. Best decision ever made by me. Highly reccomend this facility and Doc. perfect experience.
Thanks to POOKIE for the help and guidance early on in this research.

Here are the top nine comments made by NBC sports commentators during the Summer Olympics that they wish they could take back:

1. Weightlifting commentator: "This is Gregoriava from Bulgaria. I saw her snatch this morning during her warm up and it was amazing."

2. Dressage commentator: "This is really a lovely horse and I speak from personal experience since I once mounted her mother."

3. Paul Hamm, Gymnast: "I owe a lot to...

Unhappy with pacemaker

Upon the urging of my cardiologist I recently had a pacemaker implanted. Unfortunately I did not do my homework before agreeing to have it done and am very unhappy with it. I have had AFIB for many years kept under control with medication. For some reason I was convinced that the pacemaker would take care of the irregular heartbeat only to find out that tits ONLY function is to return a low heartbeat to normal. I had no idea I would have a big lump under my collarbone. Since the implant my ar...

Hi
I am a 43 yr old male who has been diagnosed with Atrial Focal Ectopic Tachycardia which first came to light about 12 years ago. I have had 2 ablation attempts, however they were unsuccessful. The elctro physiocardiologist believes the problem cells are in the left atrium which can not be accessed without more complicated surgery through the centre of the heart wall. This involves higher risks of course.

I have a full time job which I want to continue, but as I get older th...

Looking for Help with persistent Atrial Flutter

Hello all,

My story so far, in a nutshell:

I had a pacemaker implanted in 2010 due to bradycardia, possibly related to the electrical pathways having been interfered with after I underwent mitral valve replacement surgery in 2007. So I have a St. Jude mechanical valve and a Medtronic PM. This past February (2012), atrial flutter entered the picture. After trying meds with little or no success, I underwent a catheter ablation for the atrial flutter in April 2012. Exactly...

Good Morning people

What a week! Hope everyone is doing good this Sunday morning.

Myself? Nothing new health wise. Been very tired the past week and I'm sure this new med is not working all that great. Tomorrow, I will be heading to New Orleans for a check up along with talking with surgeons for that LVAD. This time, I think I will take a chill pill for the ride.

On a side note, my laptop crashed big time yesterday. I saw it coming the last two weeks and I did down load everything off it a wee...

I am still active, but about 4 months ago I started having erregular heart rates and multiple ventricular complexes, including NSVT. My life has changed greatly and I'm looking for answers every...
