Thanks for the support

Hi..I don't feel alone anymore. I just got my first PM last Friday. I had no warning that I even needed one until the day before. Everything happened so fast I'm still in a little shock. My big concern is returning to work. I work in the telecommunication industry. My station has two cell towers on site along with numerous high powered Klystron HPA's and TWT amplifiers. Lots of EMI. I would like to ask anyone who works in this business what they have done to adjust to this. I love my job...

Electric Frank & all

Frank I have read that you wear a back pack when you go out in the desert. I wear one that is also a hydration pack when I mountain bike. Is there a problem if the strap goes over the pacer? If the back pack gets jostled about when riding could it dislodge the wires that come out of the pacer?

hiking

We hike most summer vacations, this year we visited Yellowstone. So stunningly beautiful! Can't wait to go back and explore some more. I just posted a picture of me and my oldest daughter at the warning sign for Uncle Toms Trail, which is a series of switchbacks then 300 stairs that go to the bottom of Lower Falls. The sign says it's extremely difficult and not for heart patients, we took the picture on the way back up :o)

And yes, my camelback is strapped right over my pm.

Is this a first ??

I played in a golf tournament today. We played in teams of three. The groups were randomly selected from the members and I hadn't met either of the other two guys in my team before.

Only over beers in the clubhouse afterwards did we find out that all three of us have Pacemakers !

We are no longer a select bunch. Perhaps PMs will become compulsory for everyone eventually. Will the Pacemaker Club be able to cope ?

Cheers

Ian

Recommendation for heart rate monitors

I just got my pacer recently and tried to us my Garmin Forerunner 305 and found that it does not work with the pacer. When I ride my bicycle I want to be able to monitor my heart rate on each ride and record it after the ride. Has anyone found a solution for this?

Concerned Newbie

Hi,

Just had my PM installed 3 days ago so I'm still very concerned with determining what lifestyle changes must be made. I was unaware of this club and stumbled across it while web surfing.. I'm overjoyed to see the great support available. I'm in the Boston area and would to make contact with nearby members .
Thanks, Art Hersh

Fund raising Walk

Hello,
As if surviving a cardiac arrest and having an ICD implanted wasn't enough...I am doing my annual Fund raising walk to support the Walk to End Alzheimers! My 57 year old brother has been "existing" with this illness for 4 years now and does not have much longer to live (maybe a year). If anyone knows much about the disease, they know how much it robs a person of dignity, ones self, and all that life has to offer.
I know times are tough, but if anyone has a few bucks to contr...

Losing Weight

Hello All,

It has been some time since my last posting...a very long time, but I do tune in almost every day. This is truely a wonderful site and happy to find other dealing with the same issues I face each day. My pacing history has come along way while dealing with reoccuring syncope and bradycardia. After ~5 years of having rate drop programmed and not feeling well I decided to change physicians. He actually listened to me and we found the appropriate combinatoin of medications and...

New PM/ICD All is Good!

Hey Everyone!
Surgery went very well on Tuesday. My Doctor told me just before surgery that she would be implanting a bi ventricular pacemaker with the ICD. The ICD is to protect me from Sudden Cardiac Death as the result of Cardiac Sarcoidosis. I was nervous about the new lead in the left ventrical because there was the chance that the vein would be clotted from the lead to the left ventrical. The moment I gained consciousness I felt the difference. Seriously. My wife tells me that there...

PM one year old today

I am happy to say that it has been a good year, never felt better. I have been so grateful for the support from this group and also the laughs we have had along the way. I do check in most days but don't very often comment. It is good to see how others are coping, some of you have such huge hurdles to get over.

Blessings to you all
Jane

Still not sure what's going on!!

Hi pm friends!!
Well I have had a bad month since I ran the 30k
Have had 3 pm checks and they still don't know what's going on.
They said I'm having heaps of AF now. My upperlevel is at 190 but when I get to it my heart rate drops to 80 so I hit a brick wall.
I asked if it could also be my SA node ( thanks Ian mc) and he said yes that's what he is thinking it could be. I'm not allowed to do anything that gets my heart rate in upper levels until I see him next ( 2 more weeks)...

Teens out there???

Hi, I'm semi new to this website. I discovered it a little while back but I haven't gone on it much. I'm 16 years old and I have had a pacemaker since around 6 hours after my birth because of congential heart block and basically I didn't have a natural pacer. I've never had life without it, but I just feel so alone sometimes because I've never talk to another teen who has had a pacemaker too. I just want someone to message or email.

Good moring everyone

I hope and pray that all are doing good.

Myself, well it has been a very trying week. Mondays doctor appointment was a waste of time. A very stressful trip at that which took a few days to recover from. Monday, I saw a new doctor at the transplant center. Not good at all. This doctor knew nothing about me or my treatments. Wasn't her fault. The office had swaped over to a new computer system and all info was not put in.

Anyway, this doctor was just rushing me thru and didn'...

My eight year old son had a pacemaker since he was 6 months old. He does very well, plays soccer, baseball, and rides his bike. I am so glad he is not ashamed of his pacemaker. He will proudly show his "battery" to anyone.
