Heart Transplant

Larry goes in October 6 to the Mayo Clinic to be evaluated for a heart transplant. They are going to do an X-ray and ekg and who know what other tests and then he gets to talk to the Doctors. Can they do the x-ray when you have an ICD? I think I saw some place that they could.

I thought my nerves were shot when he was getting the pacemaker, but that was nothing compared to this.

Yes, your husband can have an x-ray. I x-ray people everyday who have all kinds of "additions" to their bodies and a pacemaker isn't a problem or an ICD.

My husband had a heart transplant Feb. 4 2008. Yes there will be many tests before he is put on the transplant list. Doctors will make sure that other thann his heart he is in good health. Please feel free to contact me with questions or fears. We have made quite a few friends with "new" hearts. One has had hers for 22 years! Scarey as it seems a transplant is not that bad. The patient is up and walking in 2 days. Good Luck

yes you can get xray,with icd had one my self last year. ithought i had to get a heart and lung transplant back in 07,i was down in duke for 30 days in the hospital ,he will go threw a lot of test mostly out patient testing,it will be three years since eveything happen to me,thank god i did not have to have one ,good luck,hope every thing will turn out ok were he wont need one

The only thing (at least that I know of) that we can not have is an MRI so no problem with the X-Ray at all. Best of luck to you. We will all be thinking about you and hope that all goes well. :-)
