sore and strange feeling

Hello I am 20 years old and just had my PM put in on Feb. 27. I am still very sore today which I kind of expected. I was just wondering how long it took for the soreness to go away. Also, sometimes I get this strange feeling almost like a current crawling across my PM site and a slight sting. Is this normal? I am sure I am just being paranoid but any advice would be very much appreciated.

The best way to look at it is to consider how long it takes to heal from a cut finger. Usually it is sore and inflamed for a week or so. The worst part is that the pocket under the skin they make for the pacer is made by separating the skin from the underlying tissue. If you have ever torn the skin off a chicken breast it gives you some idea of the brutal nature of it.

I was totally awake with just some Novocain type local pain killer during my implant. It wasn't painful, but I could sure feel a lot pushing and tearing going on.

The crawling feeling is probably due to some surface nerve damage from the procedure.

If you are still having some feelings like that after 2-3 weeks it would be time to look into it.

By the way, when you have your first programming checkup ask for a copy of the pre and post report. It will tell a lot about how your heart is responding to the pacer, and what settings they have programmed.

good luck,

What you are feeling is normal. I have had mine for almost a year and from time to time get different sensations. If your Interrogation checks out and no signs of infection,,just try and relax.
best wishes

The experience of having a couple of lengths of wire fed into your heart muscle and an electronic 'box' tucked under the skin is not an insignificant event, but you will survive.
