I met with a trainer at my gym next week. They use a electronic fat caliper that measures your bmi by sending an electrical pulse through your upper body to measure fat.
No one at the gym knew if it was safe for someone with a pacemaker. They couldn't figure out how to measure bmi the old fashion way! Told me to come back next week after they looked into it. Anyone know if this will interfere with my pm?
Thanks!

Seriously, if the trainer couldn't figure out how to determine BMI without a machine then get some good cardio in while you RUN AWAY! My trainer was the nicest guy, my cardio asked for his phone number so that he could fire him himself. Just becasue someone is a certified trainer doesn't mean that they have a clue about working with someone with a rhythm issue. Mine kept telling me that I wasn't eating enough carbs before a session and that's why I kept passing out, from low blood sugar (didn't know I had a rhythm issue at the time), but without measuring blood sugar that was just speculation and it almost killed me.
But for real, trainers need to be in tune with you and have at least a clue as to what is "normal" and what is not...and not being able to figure out BMI is one of those not having a clue things...

I just copied & paste this straight from the medtronic website, from their - More Help for Heart Device Patients: Electromagnetic Compatibility Guide
"NOT RECOMMENDED
Ab Stimulator
Electric Body Fat Scale"
I'm not sure what 'make or model' your pm is, but i would agree with Renee's recommendation to either contact your doc's office or check your booklet.....better to be safe than sorry!

Yesterday was my first day mountain biking after my implant. I wiped out several times and everything is fine. There are sports after pacemakers!

I don't know if it was safe or not, but I've used them and felt fine!
