re: pulsing pm question

Could someone please advise: my hubby has a pm and a mechanical m valve.  Today he got up early as pm box was pulsing rather alot, enough to see through his clothes along with his arm pulsing.

This has never happened before and is still happening since he got up, could you please advise if this normal.

Pacemaker & Problems

Hi Bullseye,

Please understand I'm not arguing with you and please hear me out on this. I have learned the hard way anything is possible with a pacemaker.

There are no moving parts in a PM that can cause it to do what your hubby's is doing. A PM sends out a small electrical impulse to make the heart beat as necessary. However this is where the catch can come in. That small electrical impulse can go astray and stimulate a nerve thereby causing that nerves to do all sorts of contortions, including just what you describe. This can be the result of improper PM settings or even a defective lead, especially a fracture in the lead insulation.

The bad, or maybe the good part, is the cause of the problem can usually be determined a PM checkup. Problems from a PM seldom correct themselves so I have to suggest a discussion with hubby's dr is your next step.

Good luck,

Smitty

PM Questions

Hi Bullseye.

My uneducated opinion is we should never see or feel our pacemaker functioning. Frankly, I will be surprised if what your hubby is feeling is originating with his PM and is probably caused by a change in his natural heart function. I suggest that he call his DR as ASAP.

Good luck,

Smitty

Were you able to find out what was happening with your husband? I just posted a similar question before reading this one. Just curious if he saw his Dr. and what the outcome was.

Thanks,
Heidi
