Excuse me but...

What exactly is an ICD?
Implanted Cardiac Device?
Internal Cardiac Defibrillator?
Is it different than a Pacemaker? I am new here and don't get a lot of the jargon.

I think that he most recent and complete post is 2008-08-21.

an ICD, Implanted Cardiac Device, Internal Cardiac Defibrillator are all the same, just some people mis speak.

As I understand them, I am not a doctor but did stay at a Holiday Inn Express lastnight.

A pacemaker just paces the heart.

ICD is a pacemaker with a defibrillator inside that has the capability of shocking the heart if it gets to crazy [like stopping] to get it back to normal.

The both have many features that can be turned on/off or adjusted for a range.

IMPLANTABLE CARDIOVERVER DEFIBRILLATOR.
It can give a cardioversion shock and a defibrillator shock to stop VF (Ventricular Fibrillation). It is also a pacemaker and can be used for pacing the heart as well. Various models are available. They are the most complex and expensive type of pacemaker and the least reliable due to the complexity and heavy workload.
