Breathlessness

I've had my PM/ICD 3 months today. All has gone pretty well until last Sunday when I was working outside & had to rest to catch my breath (I wasn't working that hard!).Monday I walked on my lunch hour & again, felt breathless. Last night at dance lessons (ballroom classes - we're having a blast!) I felt like I had run a marathon. WTH?!?! I reached my target level of 25 mg Coreg 2X daily 2 weeks ago and take 5 mg of Lisinopril daily. I've wondered about congestion like when you have a cold but I don't feel like that's it. I don't notice any swelling around my ankles. I go in next Wed for a pacer checkup. How long does it take for your body to respond to a change in meds? Could the Coreg be the problem? I don't want to call the doc for every little thing but this is something different for me. My original need for the PM/ICD was HF. I'm not feeling too good about this right now.

Coreg can cause sob,,make a list of questions for your doc and dont stop until you are satisfied with the answers. Always remember, its your ass on the line.

I think I've figured it out

It's allergies causing my SOB. I took a Claritin D this afternoon & went dancing tonite & got along much better. I thought that was odd that it just started on Sunday. I hadn't given allergies a thought (guess I'm so new to this pacer life that I blame everything on it) but someone mentioned ragweed today & I had an Aha moment. I've only developed allergies to pollen in the past 2 or 3 years so it just didn't register with me. I'm feeling much better now.

I'm 5 months post ICD implant; before the implant my doc increased my Coreg monthly. When I reached 25mg 2 x per day I was SOB and had this bad tickle in my throat that turned to severe coughing and choking. We had to back my meds back to 12.5 mg. 2 x per day and the problems went away. Now 5 months post implant, I'm having problems with SOB and coughing. Don't know what it is. Anxious to hear responses.

Poor Doc

Good diagnosis and treatment. You not only avoided needing to visit the doc, but also avoided getting some more meds with their side effects.

Allergies are a far more common cause for various symptoms than we realize.

Something to consider

I have an incredible intolerance to coreg when it gets above 6.25 mg twice a day. Every time I try to take it up I either have incredible fatigue and shortness of breath or severe dizziness. I don't now what all of your cardiac issues are but I have been instructed by my docs to avoid the "D" Claritin and stick with the regular because the decongestant can affect your heart adversely. The two times I took the Claritin D the outcome was not good.
