PM Moved

I am getting so discouraged. I had my pm repositioned 3in lower and placed in a dacron pouch just 11 days ago. I went out to get the newspaper when I bent over to pick it up I felt my PM slip back up about two inches. I'm back to that irritated uncomfortable feeling again.

Have any of you experienced this (movement) after a repositioning, Is there any hope other than a 3rd surgery?

I think it's time to find a different EP, I have totally lost faith in my doctor's ability to "get it right".

Hi 60bpm.

I am so sorry to hear that you are still experiencing problems after your repositioning. I had mine repositioned 5 months after the initial surgery as it migrating to my armpit. I had a very hard time convincing the doctors that it indeed moved!!! What I eventually discovered was the first surgeon did NOT anchor it down, hence it moved.

Please ask your last surgeon if he stitched it down or anchored it. Mine has not moved a millimeter since the repositioning. Please do not lose faith..I know, it's hard to do, but keep your chin up and demand that they fix it. And yes, if you need to, get a 2nd opinion. If you are not comfortable with your present EP, it is your right to get another one.

Perhaps the first thing you could do is ask for an Xray and get them to compare it to the day you did get it repositioned, that way it can be confirmed if it did move. Although, I know that you know the feeling, and if you say it moved, then it must have moved...don't let the doctors talk you out of anything! as I am sure they will give you the line that you are still healing, blah, blah, blah.

Remember, we are all here for you and will help in any way that we can. Let your discouragement be your motivator!!!

I have been having increasing discomfort around my pacemaker for over a year now. I brought this up with my Dr, and he gave me the usual denial that I may know what I'm talking about. He said it didn't look infected. Well, doc, I said it had moved, I said nothing about infection! But I'm so used to my EP categorically blowing off each and every concern I have, that I know the only way I can [once again] prove I'm right , is to show proof. Sure enough, during a procedure I had in June to open up a vein, the ultrasound showed my pacer lying completely horizontal! My pocket has been opened 4 times in 3 years, so I know the pocket tissue is weak. What is the big hairy deal to just admit that and go from there? Unless the pain gets excruciating, or it drops into my armpit, I plan on putting up with it until my next generator change. I don't want my incision opened up anymore. I'm more afraid of infection then discomfort at this point. I'm sure your pacemaker did move- now the problem is what should you do about it? I agree you need to see another Dr. since you've lost faith in your present one! Good luck to you!

If it was stitched into place properly, it should not move. No way would I let the same doc have a third go at me! I like Pookie's suggestion to get the xrays, then take them to someone new.
