Will my bump go down??!!!

Hello again!

I had my pacemaker (lovingly called 'Gerry'!) on 24th July and was just wondering.......... silly question I know....... does the pacemaker always protrude through the skin???

Obviously I am still very brused and swollen, but...... as I am on the small side (up top!!) it looks like I have 3 boobies!! Hope I haven't embarrased anyone here! I guess I am expecting some sort of miracle that my pacemaker will become flatter!!!

Can anyone please advise!!

Thanks for listening to me waffling!

Louise xx

MR BUMP

by pete - 2008-08-04 02:08:29

Well I think its fair to say that it is normal to have a bump. Ive got slight wire bumps as well but you soon learn to accept it. The impotant thing is that you are still alive and kicking. Things will get better I can assure you. Cheers pete

I too have a bump

It's not bad, hardly noticeable. As Pete says, the important thing is that you are still alive and kickin! I think right after you get the pacer implanted it seems a lot more noticeable because you are so aware of it. I know for me it seemed like the darn thing was huge! LOL
Give it time and you might not think it's so bad in a few weeks!

Take Care!

July?

by Smart Redd - 2008-08-04 06:08:10

If you just had your implant in late July you can count on the swelling at the implant going down. My device site has taken 4 months to shrink and was recently told it still has a bit or internal swelling to reduce.

My girlfriend, a nurse, says that they ALWAYS show, although a small bump under the muscle is far superior to placement so near the skin that a paper-etching will give you the ICD's manufacturer.

The real deal is. . .are you feeling better? No bump can bring you down if are feeling that you can get back to living your life.

Hi Lou,

You are no doubt still experiencing a lot of swelling in the underlying tissues. My PM was implanted May 06 and as I recall it was about 3 months before it was totally unnoticeable. It is nothing to hide or be ashamed of. We can do a lot of educating the public if we don't shy away from questions. On the lighter side, my grown grandkids refer to me as their "Computer Operated Grandma". Think of the alternative if you did not have the PM! Take care and God bless you as you adjust to this life-changing event. It will be okay, I promise.

third boob

by cqmccann - 2008-08-05 02:08:21

Yes,

The third boob stays. Mine are all about the same size since I am a slight build too. My friends wanted me to tatoo a nipple on it but I passed on that even though I thought it would be funny. You will get used to seeing it there eventually. I got mine in April 2008 and it is still sitting there looking at me in the mirror everyday. The bruising and swelling will subside over the next few weeks. The scar will get smaller and thinner over time. I also have a wire bump to the left of the PM. Find a way to appreciate it if you can. Best of luck in recovery!

Extra body parts

Your 3rd "boobie" cracked me up! I've called mine that too! I got mine on July 22nd, just 2 days before you so we're probably on about the same track. My site feels fine 1st thing in the morning but swells and gets somewhat painful as the days wears on. Can't wait to get the bra off after work! This really is a life changing event and I am so glad my doc was as insistent as he was in getting things checked out.

third bump

Hi I just wanted you to know that you should not have a 3rd boob. I had a 10yr old pm and I can only see the outline of it on the side. no Large bump. If yours is like that I would go back to the surgeon and insist on this being corrected. I am going in for my replacement in a few weeks and will talk to my doctor about how it will look after surgery. hope all goes well take care
