How long does it take before the pain stops in your shoulder after you have had an implant fitted. My husband had it put in two weeks ago and he is still in alot of pain.

Pain

I had mine 2 weeks and 3 days ago, and is still painful and tender. My family doctor suggest 4-6 weeks before totally pain-free.

Post implant pain

Hi,
Where did they implant your husbands pacer? A lot depends on the location. My is just under the skin below the clavicle on the left side. Depending on a persons age and how concerned they are about the cosmetics of the site, they may implant it under a muscle so it doesn't show as much. This type of location will take longer to heal since more sensitive tissue is displaced.
The other question is it painful all the time or just when he moves the arm or shoulder? If it is constantly painful or is red, inflamed or feels warm he could have and infection.

Keep in mind that there was a lot of tissue damage in shaping the pocket under the skin. I was awake during my implant and could feel the pressure of separating skin from underlying tissue (kind of like pulling the skin off a chicken breast). This takes a while to heal.

It has been 3 years ago, but I remember being back to normal activity in around 2-3 weeks, and had very little pain when resting.

maybe he doesn't want to mow the yard!!

depends on each person

I still have pain 10+ months out from my implant date. It really has to do with the implant location, how well your body accepts a foreign object, exact placement of the device, and how active you are. I think everyone on this site experiences some residual pain now and again, but at this point, mine does not hurt constantly, just off and on.

I actually have not experienced any pain except for the time I fell with my large camera between the pacer site and the ground. Even then I just had some sore ribs!

I'm not sure when it stopped being even slightly sensitive, but maybe a year out.

Thank you all for your comments it has put both our minds at rest as we have not seen the Specialist who did the procedure since before the op.

Since posting this however we had to see a aftercare nurse and my hubby was in so much pain by then with the pain running down from the back of neck and half way down his arm. They thought he had a blood clot but luckily this was not the case but even with pain meds he is still feeling pain.

We are waiting for a appointment to be brought forward. The device was put on his left side.

Still have pain

I am in my fifth month after sugery and i still having pain at my incision site. Somedays I dont feel it all all and some days it feels like I am being cut all over again. Sometime I can sleep on my left side most of the time I cant. I still dont know how long it will take to stop hurting. I just hate tell people that I am hurting. If you have not had to deal with this kinda of surgery its hard to understand. Still in all it is a small price to pay to breath and to be able to walk and not get out of breath. I am very greatful to be here. I have a lot of living to do and I plan to do just that! Thank You God!
