Scar

I had a pacemaker installed in January 2008. Can anyone tell me how to make the scar less noticeable?

I used Vitamin E oil on my PM & total knees replacement scars as soon as everything was completely healed & all are a lot less noticable now. That & time helps unless you get a keloid scar then it can be a problem

Good luck,

Janet

I have had my first injection of kenalog from my dermatologist 1 month ago and my scar looks 100% better. I wanted to have the injection primarily for the pain(bra and seat belt). It really is amazing the pain is just about gone. I have my appointment this Friday and I'll let you know how I make out.

Hello Enileal - I used Bio Oil on my scar. Like Janet, from the moment it had healed. I put it on twice a day. It's not heavy and doesn't transfer easily to clothes. My PM was put in in April 2007 and is now easily covered by a spot of cosmetic concealer. Give it all time and it'll happen. Best wishes, Wannabe

Okay, I couldn't resist. I'm sorry!!!

My scar is pretty obvious because I have "that type" of skin. Cream from my Dermatologist worked quite well.

It's my computer

Recently I was at the swimming pool in our condo complex. Talking to some kids one little girl did notice the scar that is almost invisible now. She also saw that my skin was "bumpy". I told her "secretly" that it was the computer to keep my heart working right but not to tell anyone else. It was her secret to keep! I am sure she told at least her parents. But she was quite in awe of this whole thing. Might as well educate these kids while they are little. This is the 3rd summer in our condo with the pacemaker and no one has asked me before so I guess it is truly unnoticeable. Funny thing is I have had both knees replaced and have 7" scars on them. They are just white lines and not one person has asked! I view my them all as battle wounds.

I have found that when I tell people what my scar is, they are surprized. They all thought a Pacemaker was placed right where your heart is.

I just want to share about the quality of life after my pacemaker, and hopefully increase awareness that lifestyles do not have to be drastically modified just because we are pacemaker recipients.
