Isuues with dizziness and balance

Hello Everyone,

I've had my pacemaker for nearly a year now, and I have some issues. Most days , I feel pretty good, and am able to perform activities without trouble. There are some days though, that I just feel out of it, sometimes dizzy. I work a retail job, and it is fast-paced, and can be very stressful. I'll be running around, helping customers etc. when my energy will just drop off. I feel tired, and slightly dizzy.

Yesterday, we started wearing headsets to respond to customer and manager pages. The set is in one ear, connected to a communication device. After wearing it for an hour or so, I started getting dizzy, and out of it. I feel my balance is off. I wondering what that could be.? The headphone wouldn't be throwing my pacemaker off, would it?

There are times when a situation is stressful, I feel overwhelmed, tired, dizzy. I take Inderal as a beta blocker, Zoloft for anxiety, and Lyrica to tamp down nerve pain and regulate stress.

Am I experiencing panic attacks? Any advice you can give to cope with these issues would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hi Docrfd.

Dizziness can come from anywheres. I too am on Lyrica for nerve pain and feel lightheadeded every time I take it and I'm on the lowest dose possible (so I just take it at night now).

Drugs are a big time culprit for dizziness and feeling tired. Beta Blockers are famous for making one feel tired. My pharmacist helped me with a schedule for taking my drugs so I can do or be my best during the day, just a thought I'd throw out there.

Another thing that pops into my head about dizziness is an inner ear problem or low blood pressure. I mention these because that is what causes some of my daily dizziness.

Perhaps you should keep a diary of what you have taken for meds and jot down when you are dizzy, for how long and what you were doing at the time. Something might jump out at you as a clue.

Another thought: if you use the "search" feature on this site (upper right hand corner) and type in the word "dizzy or dizziness", you will find a wealth of past posts concerning this issue.

Also, you might wanna tell your family doc about this and he/she might even refer you to an ENT.

Good luck & I hope you find your answer soon.

Dizziness can be a lot of things. Two simple things that aren't cardiac (and easy to fix) are missing meals and not drinking enough water. How much do you get to drink on days you work?

I would do talk to your pharmacist and see if it can be caused by the combination of meds you're on. If they were prescribed by different doctors, all of your docs need to know what the others have you on. Sometimes they inadvertently put you on something that doesn't mix well with what another doctor has you on.

If the headset were to cause interference, it would have happened immediately and gone away as soon as you took it off.

If you get dizzy from activity, you might need your upper limit raised.

Have you ever considered stress management? A good therapist can teach you ways to alleviate stress and control anxiety. I worked through David Burns' book The Feel Good Handbook with a counselor years ago and it was life altering. Little things to do to change the way you look at things that stress you out. Just a thought! It sure helped me.

You know you're wired when...

You have an excuse for being a couch potato.
