stopping PVC's

PVC's are one of the most common arrythmias and can occur in people with or without heart desease.
As you know PVC's are an extra heart beat originating in an ectopic pacemaker in the ventrical.
The cause for PVC's can be drug induced both recreational (cocaine, amphetamines, alcohol or caffiene)and prescribed drugs such as digoxin, some antidepressants and aminophylline to name a few. Other causes can be electrolyes such as a decreased potassium for example if yoiu are on a high level of diurectics(lasix, HCTZ)you could be excreting to much potassium in your urine.....so a low potassium can cause PVC's as can low magnesium or calcium. An increase in adrenaline caused by caffeine, excercise or stress my all cause PVC's
So when you are asking if there is anything you can do...assuming that you have checked with your doctor and he/she has ruled out that the cause of the PVC's is not from drugs, or electrolyte imbalance look at what is going on in your everyday life....are you stressed? Do you drink to much coffee? Are you taking over the counter medication that might be causing them.
There are many variables for PVC's if you haven't already done so discuss this with your doctor about how you can take an active role in minimizing the PVC's.
I hope this helps a little....best of luck to you and good health!!! Keep us posted.

In fact after the final "tweaks" of my pacemaker programming at the one year check up it is working so well that I forget I have it.
Handling PVC's

First the good news: there is rarely anything dangerous about PVC's. Often they just subside on their own.
The bad news: they seem to happen on their own schedule and make you think you are going to die!
The best approach to them is the hardest. The less you get upset emotionally, the less they will happen. Stress, worry, anger, etc. affects the vagal nervous system which has connections to the heart. This stimulates the irritable conductive tissue in the heart and initiates the PVC's.
There is no certainty that this will stop them, but may have a positive effect.
By the way screaming RELAX at ourselves doesn't work well. I understand what you are going through. I had a 6 week or so time around the xmas holidays when I showed as many as 2500 pvc's per day. Not fun, but they stopped as quick as they appeared.
