I have sick sinus syndrome, 40yrs old and dare I say it, a fitness trainer. I had my first box change 5 weeks ago and have felt awful ever since. I had it done in the uk where I'm from but I am living in the Middle East.
I have been told that I have pericarditis. I just feel awful and with my line of work it's not good. Has anyone else had this?
I feel SO tired, in pain, anxious and generally unwell. I have 3 young children so I am feeling the stress.
Any comments would be helpful. ð

Pericarditis

I had pericarditis after my implant last month. It hurts! Took several weeks of a combination of steroids, NSAID's and colchicine as well as adequate rest and hydration to recover. I felt awful like I had the flu and horrible chest pain that was worse with lying down. Spend many nights sitting up to sleep. It does get better but you have to take care of yourself. Slow down and rest to let your body heal.

Thanks Gertrude. It's definitely taken me by surprise. I thought I would be back working and functioning fully by now and yet I'm unable to do much at all.
It's been 5 weeks. The pain is better but still hurts laying down and I'm still breathless, dizzy and generally feeling low.
Thanks for your insight.
I hear you

It's hard when you're a young, active person to have something like pericarditis knock you down. I'm 32 and lead an active life but I had to slow way down while I recovered. It was painful and frustrating but with time and the medications it slowly got better and resolved. If you feel like you need a day in bed or on the couch, do it and don't feel guilty about it. Your body will tell you when you can resume your lifestyle. Be patient and best wishes.
second opinion?

Can you get another opinion? Peridcarditis will definitely slow you down and cause pain. Are they treating it? What I'm wondering is how you got pericarditis from a box change. Did you also get new leads? Nothing about changing a box would cause pericarditis.

I've seen many posts about people being concerned about exercise after having a device so thought I would let you know that yesterday I raced my first marathon since having my pacemaker fitted in fall 2004.

I am going back tomorrow to see the consultant. They think that it's viral and maybe just hit me through the stress of the box change and other bits I am dealing with. I had glandular fever in my 20's ..... This feels really similar.
I have to say I am really struggling ð
