Hello all. I went to have my interrogation the other day and the nurse that does the interrogation found something that shocked the both of us. When she was checking my battery she noticed that my heart was trying to beat on its own. You have to understand that I had an AV ablation trying to fix my fast irregular heartbeats and after that my lower heart wouldn't do anything, so now I have 'my little friend'. She adjusted it where the pacemaker would only kick in when my heart wouldn't beat after so many milliseconds. Needless to say I felt awful while she was checking to see if it worked okay. I feel bad because I couldn't go like that. It felt like my heart was in my throat, my legs were weak and I could feel the pacing. She told me not to feel bad about not being able to handle it being adjusted like that, but I do. Has anyone ever had their heart to try and heal itself like that? I wonder if it will get to the point that I can have my pacemaker removed?

Pacie, you didn't say how recently you had the ablation done. Some ablations don't completely 'take' the first time, and require another round. I have had it described as the area being 'bruised' and recovering several weeks after the procedure. Either way, yeah, those electrical connections can sometimes figure out a way to reconnect, although it is rare.
Terry, unfortunately in Pacie's instance, her doctor is trying to eliminate naturally conducted beats because they are being conducted too fast and can actually produce certain arrhythmias. Intrinsic beats are preferable most of the time, but not in this instance.
I understand sorta!

Hi Pacie,
After getting my pm I went a month where I only went in a couple times and then my heart started functioning again it was after my 2nd ablation. It required 3 ablations and to remove my SA Node for me to be comfortable. I am now paced in only the top part after my 3 ablation a month later they were able to turn off the ventricles.
I pray that things work out for you and that you will be ok. Take care and know you have a good support system here.
Blessings,
Tammy

I just want to share about the quality of life after my pacemaker, and hopefully increase awareness that lifestyles do not have to be drastically modified just because we are pacemaker recipients.
Greatest of news!

According to several recent studies, the naturally conducted beats are so much better for you in preventing heart failure and even preventing stroke.
