I recently had my night rate changed from 60 bpm to 50 because of discomfort at night. my problem is that at 11 p.m.the drop in bpm is so drastic that it puts my heart into af,the same thing happens in the a.m. at 6.This does not happen every day though.Should there be a even transition? I have had a dual pacer for 5 years still get af and feel my heart pounding at night .very uncomfortable.Had numerous changes done voltage etc. Should i go back to the clinic or is that theway it is. Cheers Fender...

just a suggestion but why not turn off the night rate/sleep mode all together and just have your low rate set at 50....
keeping in mind that I don't know a thing about afib:(

Hi don, Pookie, thanks for your input. I am being paced 98% in the atrium, 0% in the ventrical, have sss with a a history of low heart rates, no matter what i do my heart rate hardly goes over the set rate of 60 bpm, they have tried putting the rate response on numerous times but have had to switch it off as the slightest exertion was causing me to go into afib, not sure if they would agree to a 50 low rate ,i have had an ablation for aflutter and take sotalol for the afib. I dont really like having the pacemaker tuned as most times i was i was better off with the the previous settings .will bear with for a couple of weeks before i go back. Cheers Fender

I just want to share about the quality of life after my pacemaker, and hopefully increase awareness that lifestyles do not have to be drastically modified just because we are pacemaker recipients.
Nightime Heart Rate

Hi, Welcome to the HR changes at night ! I guess I'm not alone with my heart getting into eratic HR while trying to relax & go to sleep. As I'm in my 20th year with 4 PMs' I have always experienced similar irregular beats trying to get to sleep. I have also developed Atrial-Fib in the last few years but keep it under control with medication. As you mentioned going back to your clinic, should be a good plan as lots of people experience conflict with their heart not staying in a smooth gradual resting rate. Good luck & hopefully meds change will help for you !!
