I have just had my pacemaker replaced. It was three weeks ago. My first one I had for almost 8 years. Does anyone have a problem with the pacemaker sticking up when you lay on your side? I sleep on my right side and my pacer in on the left. It is just like it stand s on end when I am in this position. Also my shoulder muscle is sore. Is there anything to worry about with each of these problems? Am I just being impatient? Thanks guys you are awesome!! DD

Can Relate

Four weeks ago today was my first placement. Mine was placed under the skin in the left chest and I find it really difficult to sleep on the right side as it seems to stick up and my arm hits it. Left side sleeping is much better. However, am really having shoulder, biceps, triceps pain in the left arm. The bones of my shoulder are really sore to the touch. I am thinking that a lot of this may be skin nerve sensation coming back. Think it may just be par for the course and am just grateful that the overwhelming fatigue and SOB are gone. I am a Triathlete so the MD placed the PM where he thought I would have the most range of motion for swimming. I too am impatient so I can relate. Good luck.

I had this problem with the pacemaker that was installed. the leads worked loose and when they had to replace them the surgeon tacked the pacemaker to my muscle this stopped the problem. ask your doctor if there is anything they can do to help you. samopat

Hi DD:
My situation is very similar to yours. My battery only lasted about 5 1/2 years though. I had my second implanted 3 weeks ago now too. I really thought it would be much easier this time around. Well, it was not. My doctors and support staff are great and provided me the pain medication needed. It seems like this PM is sticking out further, I have no idea why. I dont know if its because its still swollen. Also, I cannot lay on my left side(side of PM) and must sleep on my back. So, if its any reassurance, I am experience very similar issues. I hope it get better with you and as you know, it does take time. Tom
