i set off alarm @ walmart/kmart

I have been setting off the alarm going into and exiting some stores...usually our walmart and kmart! They all know me by now, and it is not my parcels. It does it going in to the store. It's a great way to get some attention!!!!!
Anyone else have this issue???

Hello iksonak,

You are not the only one with this problem. I posted a similar message on January 3rd of this year.

My two lead Guidant pm was implanted on Nov. 21st, 2007. It was the day after my 3rd session at the pacemaker clinic on Jan. 2nd, 2008 that I started to set off alarms in just about every store I visited that had the anti-theft device at the entrance/exit. At the 4th session at the clinic I asked the technician about it. She insisted that no adjustment she had made on the 2nd caused it to happen. This is what she wrote in her report to my doctor: “[The patient states] she is now setting off store alarms with this pacemaker. This didn’t happen before Christmas and she finds it quite annoying. I explained to Ms.___ that there is nothing we can do from a pacemaker point of view, that store security change frequencies on the alarms from time to time.”

Do I believe her? No, not really. On March 7th I went to see an electophysiologist at the closest teaching hospital. He made another adjustment that had nothing to do with the alarm problem - in fact I don't even remember mentioning the alarm problem to him - but, miraculously, the problem stopped and I have not set one off since.

I have always wondered if there is a connection between the starting and stopping of the alarm problem and the kind of adjustment that was made at the sessions but I guess I will never know for sure. I would really be interested in knowing what adjustment was made, if any, just before your problem started. Also, did it start immediately after implantation of the pm or was there a delay like there was for me before it started?

I have set off the alarms at a Walmart I go to, along with the alarms at a local Marks Work World.
I had a little trouble with a security guard who did not seemcare that I had a pacemaker.

As a footnote we have a little gas station/ junk food store and I can usually tell if there alarm system is on or off.

Its good to know its not just me

I have a two lead guidant too. I was a constant aggravation to our wonderful local supermarket security man for quite a while. but since the scarring has healed ( i had my pace sub muscular implanted), and the pacer settled, i have had little opportunity to entertain my kids and fellow shoppers!

They came running after me like I was a common criminal. I was laughing because I knew it was my pm. My husband was making things worse by saying RUN RUN, and he was running to the car. Anyway, I showed them my pm card and all was well. Now that clerk always laughs when he sees me.

You know you're wired when...

You need to be re-booted each morning.

Sometimes a device must be tuned a few times before it is right. My cardiologist said it is like fine tuning a car.
