Heart increases at slightest exertion

Allan (41) edinburgh
Having onle every experienced tachycardia twice in my life I find it strange that eating too much chocolate could bring this on.I have my beta blockers atenlol(25mg)at the same time everyday 5 pm but some days i really notice my heart becoming easily tired in early afternoon .Tired in the sense that I will become out of breath relly easily
Is this a sign that something is wrong?
It seems as soon as you get into a steady pace with these meds something throws you off trusting the situation- the only thing I can think of is that maybe I ate too many sugary things this afternoon and my increased heart rate due to the sugar triggered of an anxiety attack. I lay down for two hours trying to get my heart rate down to a normal rate i think i am gonna ban sugar if it is the culprit.I avoid caffine and any othre stimulants -I dont drink and I dont want to be running back to the pacemaker clinic every 5 minutes as I am sure my pacemaker is doing its job.

Is sugar that powerfull?
Has anyone else had this effect from sugar?

Sugar & chocolate...

Hello Allan,

I haven't had the same issues that you have, however, chocolate has a lot of caffeine in it! Might cause a problem???

Sugar... if you notice you continually have problems you might have your doctor check you for Type II diabetes. My hubby has had heart problems for about 8 years and also developed Type II diabetes. He gets really tired in the afternoons... it may or may not be your issue, but because heart issues and diabetes seem to go hand in hand...

I get anxiety attacks and they totally wipe me out. Suddenly, for no apparent reason, I get anxious my adrenalin kicks in and up my heart rate goes...usually takes me several hours to get calmed down. Sometimes I have to take something.

I have no definite answer for you, but I wouldn't worry about going to your doctor... it is your health, be proactive and find out what it is!

Hope you feel better soon!

Alergies/sensitivities

For years I have experienced a high HR after eating Mexican Food, but only if I have alcohol with it. Just a glass of wine or beer, not a lot. Either alone won't do it. It apparently has to do with a combined reaction to something in the food (like chile) and alcohol. You may have something that affects you the same way. You have mentioned chocolate. Aside from caffeine there are a number of other chemicals in chocolate. Maybe something is reacting to your beta blockers. You might ask a pharmacist.

just a thought,

As for my pacemaker (almost 7 years old) I like to think of it in the terms of the old Timex commercial - takes a licking and keeps on ticking.
