I am the first to agree with anybody that this site is a blessing to anyone who is new to the world of pacemakers.
My sole point is that it can be unhealthy worrying about every single aspect that can go wrong. The English back up system is much less involved in the sense that there are no phone check ups just a yearly appointment.
I am told by my Uk specialist that the reason there is so much back up care in the united states is because it is very lucritive for heart specialists.
I mean no offence to anybody and do not wish to alarm new comers but i just feel it cant be healthy checking in every single day when you feel fine but yes i take your point helping others is important too
I hope I did not upset you Ted we have both had the same experience .It is just my opinion.
Good Luck

Glad You're Back So Soon
by ted - 2008-02-03 07:02:36
Allan: I'm glad that you got right back in after telling us that you were leaving, and saying that too much information was dangerous. I was not offended by your post but concerned that you had seemed so fearful in your prior posts that the thought of being informed was scaring you. Truth and knowledge can never be a threat. I happen to fear ignorance and not reality I certainly agree with your thoughts that dwelling on our condition is not healthy. I personally do not barrage my doctors with a lot of questions because I trust them and do just what they say. But, having gone through the procedure of being implanted, it feels good to give back to others by being here for them, as they were here when I was new. I sometimes see folks here threatening to leave and then others begging them to stay. I don't believe that we have to beg anyone for anything but I hope that you can be here to share your experience, strength, and hope with some lost soul who will take courage from your story. Ted
Point Understood!

I love this site and I would hate to see you leave. Take a break for a while. We will always be here if you need anything. If it is something that is causing more stress in your life then maybe you should not get on. I don't mean to sound rude but we all should do what is best for each one of us. I myself don't know what I would do without the support and knowledge that I have gotten here. But, that doesn't mean that is right for you. You are in my prayers and I understand whatever you decide to do.
You don't even realize that you are touching someones heart right now that is checking out the site! They may be very scared about there PM/ICD and you just let know that it's OK. As Jessie put it we start dying the day we are born. I just put myself in God's hands and everything will else will fall in place. I wish you the best of luck and don't feel like you have to log in everyday. You are helping more people than you know by sharing your feelings right now. Thank you for that.
God bless you,
Amy
Break

Yeah, breaks are good for one's perspective. I left this site for some time and only came back when I was approaching replacement time. I think it helped my anxiety to chat a bit and hopefully relieve someone else's anxiety about getting a new PM.

i think he was just saying that coming here everyday was no good for him because it reminded him he had a pacemaker. i don't think about it and i come here everyday. i am not obsessed over my p.m. at all but enjoy the friendship and contact with others on this site who have become as susan says my very strange friends lol or whatever. so hope i have not offended anyone but i find this site a very excellent support system and i need this in my life. jessie

To tell you the truth I never even give it a second thought. While growing up it never stopped me from doing anything and to this day my girlfriend or my kids need to remind me that I have one!

experience strength and hope like ted said that is the real answer for this forum because it seems to me that everyone has something too share and others often get strength from it. we don't have the telephone checking here either at least not where i live. i popped in for my check while my husband had bi-pass and they took me even tho my appt. was for the next week. i told them i did not want to leave him and be gone 6 hours so soon after his discharge. they were excellent bless their souls but i am going to ask more questions in sept. i got the list of questions to ask form here. so we are here. it's not so morbid really as i have come to accept and we want you to feel good about popping in when you need to all the best happy pacing jessie
