Entresto update...

Well... it's still going REALLY well after almost two weeks, I am feeling much better than I was, with more energy than I've had since before the pacemaker. So far, I've noticed there are NO new side effects with the added Entresto, which is a huge relief! It's frustrating that thanks to someone's error, I wasn't able to take this medication a year ago when I first tried. It would have been great to feel better a year ago. But there's nothing I can do about that now. And no one is admitting whose fault it is that they didn't tell me to stop taking Losartin first.

I'll keep you all updated on my progess... finally I'm starting to see some, and that's not only encouraging, but exciting!

I am becoming more confident that you can be well again

Janene, that is such reassuring news and if it works so well for you with a low ejection fraction, it might just work where other meds have failed, for other patients too in a similar situation.  Shall we call it our magic ingredient that is certainly worth trying?

Your post highlights the need for each one of us to be extra vigilant with our medication, to do our own research if necessary, to make sure that what we are being asked to take is really safe for us?  It is sad it has come to this.  I am sorry you were not able to tolerate Entresto while taking Losartan an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB) which would have increased the likelihood for more side effects by having more of the same medication building up in your blood stream.  I am unclear whether these two meds are ever really safe to take “together” although I would like to believe that a good doctor wouldn’t have prescribed them unless they were, especially if certain frequent checks are made, like electrolytes.

I agree you have been deprived of a potentially beneficial medication for the last year because of the side effects you suffered by taking both Entresto and Losartan together.   It is clear that we should avoid use of Entresto with another ARB, because Entresto also contains the angiotensin II receptor blocker, Valsartan.

I wouldn’t spend energy being angry about this for a moment longer though.  Negative emotions will not help you.  When you say there are no noticeable side effects, I presume this is on the lower (halved) dose of Entresto?

I was told by both my cardiologist and the pharmacist that you are not supposed to take Losartin and Entresto together, that's why I can easily tolerate it this time. They forgot to tell me to stop the Losartin last time I tried Entresto,  which makes sense concerning the troubling side effects I had before.

Yes, I'm still on half a pill twice daily, but will go for a higher dose in a couple weeks. I'm confident it will be okay.

I wasn't really self-conscious about it. I didn't even know I had one until around six or seven years old. I just thought I had a rock in my side.
