Meta Quest 3 VR Headset

Hello everyone

I got my Pacemaker in March 2023.  I am getting to the point now that I sometimes forget that I have one.  There are times I forget about interferences that I need to be concerned about.

I just ordered the Meta Quest Vertual Reality Headset.  Then it hit me... am I able to use this?  I played on ine at Easter for abiut 10 min and had no issues, but I don't want to spend a bunch of money on something that could be a risk to my pacemaker.

I am 100% Paced.  I need to check with my Doctor but wondering about others experiences on this subject.

Thanks

If you used one for 10 minutes and felt fine, it's safe to go ahead and get one. Run it by your doctor, but that was more than enough time to feel it if you are 100% paced.

In nearly 30 years paced, I have never once had anything interfere. A few times I did questionable things and asked at my next interrogation, it never once caused a blip. Newer pacers are very well shielded so a magnet has to be very strong and very close (<6") in order to cause a mode switch.

It's great that you forget about it! We truly do not need to baby it or live in fear of something messing with it. The very worst that can happen if we get too close to a magnet that's too strong is it will feel like when they interrogate and our rate may drop. That puck they put over it to interrogate is a magnet. We will still be safe, and as soon as we get away from the cause of the interference, it will go back to normal. But again, in 30 years I've never once done that, and I am not particularly careful.

Tracey, thank you for the reponse.  I Appreciate your input.

Still waiting to hear from the pacemaker clinic.  I could be wrong but to be safe and cover their liability they may not recommend it.  I will hear what they have to say and will try my friend's system again before going through with purchase. I will pay closer attention to any weird feelings.  There are some awesome workouts on VR that I really feel will do me good to keep moving and stay strong.

I find all the activities I enjoy don't trigger my rate response as I need it to.  Bike riding,  weights, abdominal machine... We have done some serious adjustments and testing to make my quailty of life better.  I guess I need to reevaluate my sports activities so I can stay in shape.  I am 58 and gotta a lot of time left to keep fit.  They now say I probably should have gotten the Boston Scientific to respond to my breathing rate.

For now I can live with how it is set.

Love this community!  So good to have a group of people who support the good and the challenging!

frustrating

It's a shame they didn't ask about your activities before choosing your device! How frustrating.

Try to concentrate on how you’re able to be active again and feel normal, rather than on having a machine stuck in your body.
