Re: Rate Response
My Abbott Assurity Pacemaker shows a Rate Response Setting followed by another number which is in brackets. Can anyone explain what the number in brackets signifies?
RR has been programmed to come back down to base rate very slowly - presumably to avoid triggering atrial arrhythmia. Does anyone know how this setting is shown on the pacemaker download / printout as I can't find it?
Many thanks

Hi Julianne,
Many thanks for this information - particularly the threshold information. That is the most thorough explanation that I've received and extremely helpful as I didn't understand some of that.
I do have printouts which include the Parameters section, however some of the RR settings that you list are missing from the print outs I've received, notably recovery time and reaction time. Hence my post.
I'll look for the Help Manual. Would you happen to have a link?
Thanks in advance

Copy and paste the above link into your browser. Look down the list for "Bradycardia and Tachycardia Devices Merlin Patient Care System Help Manual". It is a downloadable PDF file.
Sorry about the delay. I never got a notification of your response.

Abbott Assurity Pacemaker Rate Response settings

The download/printout needs to include the "Parameters" section. Under the "Parameters" section is "Basic Operation". That is where the Rate Respone Settings are found. There are five rate response settings. The first is "Threshold (measured Avg.)" The available settings are 1.0; 1.5; 2.0; 2.5; 3.0; 3.5; 4.0; 4.5; 5.0; 5.5; 6.0; 6.5; 7.0; Auto (-0.5); Auto (+0.0); Auto (+0.5); Auto (+1.0); Auto (+1.5); Auto (+2.0). The "Auto" setting adjust the parameter according to the measured average sensor, which is a calculation of the patients activity over the previous 18 hours. For example, my Rate Response Threshold is Auto (+0.0). My Threshold (Measured Avg.) listed on my pintout is Auto (+0.0) (2.0). This means that my average threshold over the previous 18 hours was 2.0. So my current Threshold is set at 2.0. IF your setting was Auto (+1.0) and your printout said Auto (+1.0) (2.0) your average threshold over the previous 18 hours was 2.0 and it's adding 1.0 so your current Threshold would be set at 3.0.
The other Rate Response settings are Slope, Max Sensor Rate, Reaction Time, and Recovery Time.
Reaction Time signifies how slow or fast you heart rate goes up. Recovery Time signifies how slow or fast your heart rate returns to base rate.
There is a published "Merlin Patient Care System Help Manual" on the internet. That's where I get most of my information.
