Triclosan is a chemical used in many products especially mouthwash toothpaste and soap but also in cleaners and lipstick etc.
It combines with the chlorine in water to form Chloroform which is a carcinogen. However the bad news for us is that it affects the heart muscle and reduces its strength. Even in very low exposure rates that humans experience in everyday life.I have checked all my products and cut my exposure by 75%. There does seem to be some improvement in the strength of my pulse. There is a great deal of information about al this on the internet and I saw an article in our national paper 2 days ago. Worth avoiding. You cant be too careful. Peter

The heart problems so far have only been seen in laboratory mice and my natural cynicism reminded me of the old definition of a drug which is " Any chemical compound which, when injected into a mouse, produces a published paper "
But , having said that, these possible heart effects in combination with its known carcinogenic properties make it a substance to avoid in my view. I will be changing my tooth paste and will be looking at labels more closely.
Thanks pete for bringing this to our attention

Triclosan and Cardiac Issues / PVC link?
by pickleball - 2012-08-15 10:08:59
Hello pete,
I was just about to post to the PACEMAKER CLUB my findings, too, about Triclosan and the heart; I too have seen the Internet reports of a problematic relationship between this antibacterial chemical and the proper functioning of heart and muscle cells. My dental hygienist had recommended to me a certain toothpaste by a major toothpaste manufacturer, for the facts that it contains Triclosan and that that chemical is an effective antibacterial agent against gingivitis. Now, however, that I see the news of a likely negative relationship between Triclosan and heart functioning (in animals and very possibly in humans, as well), I have tossed away that toothpaste and will not be using it any more. I am wondering if there may be a connection between Triclosan and PVC's--which, for me, had spiked since January. Any news from anyone / anyone's cardiologist about this possible link?
