Hi everyone,
Just to check in, I have had my operation confirmed for January 21st at Great Ormand Street Hospital. On the 12th of January they would like me to do an exercise test, apparently this is a normal thing before getting a new pacemaker, I never knew this?
Im feeling quite positive about this as I'm sure getting the new pacemaker will help a lot,
Hayden

Thank you everyone,
I will let you all know how the procedure goes when it's done.
im sure having an exercise test before is normal but I just overthink everything when they ask for more tests so that's on me :),
thank you

You know you're wired when...
You play MP3 files on your pacer.

I'm 35 and got my pacemaker a little over a year ago. It definitely is not a burden to me. In fact, I have more energy (which my husband enjoys), can do more things with my kids and have weight because of having the energy.
Excellent news !

Dear Hayden,
That is excellent news to get confirmation of an early procedure date, especially with hospitals being under so much presssure in London and the south east due to Covid-19.
I did not have an Exercise Echocardiogram prior to my dual chamber pacemaker implant, but I did have a range of other tests, including chest X-ray, bloods, Electrocardiogram, Echocardiogram.
Perhaps they want to put your heart under stress to look for any rhythm disturbances, to see how your heart works during physical activity because exercise makes your heart pump harder and faster. A stress test can show any problems with blood flow or point to any potential arterial blockages. It will check your heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, how tired you get. For example a Stress echocardiogram picked up my husband had a major blocked artery and this may have saved his life. No doubt you will have a clean bill of health, but it will give them so much information and perhaps help them to make the necessary settings for your pacemaker too which will be valuable for you.
Good luck Hayden
