Large speakers have large magnets and being too close can affect your pacemaker. Stay at least 10 feet from a big speaker.

Ethel,

Loud speakers are one of the things I have seen on this site that can cause a problem. The solution is to stay back and away from the speakers.

The company that makes your PM should have a booklet and probably a website with a list of things to avoid. I found that to be very helpful--along with this website of course.

When i first got my pacer Medtronic Adapta DR almost 8 months ago, I was worried cause of friends house stereo and I hang out at the bar often. Medtronic sent me a pamplet that gave me good info. So Everybody different, but I stay 10-15 ft away and when I start to feel odd I take a break and head outside for a few minutes then go back. Seems to work so far.

I had a pacemaker when I was 11. I never once thought I wasn't a 'normal kid' nor was I ever treated differently because of it. I could do everything all my friends were doing; I just happened to have a battery attached to my heart to help it work.
