Hi everyone!
Well here I am home and happy after my PM replacement surgery yesterday..It went really well.....only feel a little bit sore but otherwise great!!!
Just had a local anaethetic and a little medicine through the IV to help me relax...I was aware of the whole procedure and talked to the cardiologist.I could feel him pulling and pushing and screwing in the new PM to the leads...It was all over in about 20 mins..I couldnt believe how easy it went..
I am now the proud owner of a St Jude Duel Chamber Pacer.Model 5816
My previous was a Guidant (Boston scientific)
Has anyone got this PM as I would be interested how you are going with it!!
Thanks for all your support when I was getiing worried about the procedure..Billie if you read this..Dont worry you will be fine when yours is done in July.
Asked if I could keep my old pacer.. but was told they would think about it as they can explode if you keep them to long!!
Love to all,
A happy and relieved girl from downunder,
Kay

Hi Maureen,
Yes I am hoping to hear from Billie as she is about to leave to go to New Zealand on Monday..Hope she has read my post so she can enjoy her holiday and not worry about her op coming up in July..I honestly thought it would be a lot more painful than it was..
I am feeling great..Recharged and ready to go another 6 or more years on my new pacemaker..Yay!!!
Love,
Kay

The worst part

The worst part was worrying about it. Glad it went so well.
By the way the old pacer isn't going to explode unless you put it in the microwave!!! I have my old one. The Medtronics rep had no problem giving it to me. One of the nurses sterilized it and handed it to me on the way out of OR.

Recharged!!!!

Thanks Tracey,Amanda and Frank,
Yes Frank...I agree ..the worst part was the worrying beforehand...I just cant believe how much more energenic I feel since getting my new PM...I seemed to be feeling really tired all the time with the old one.....Maybe the new one has .."more bells and whistles on it" than the old one!!!...lol
Love,
Kay.....
(Frank... I wonder why the old one didnt explode inside me ???????I am still trying to get him to give it to me!! ha!! )
Old pacer

Just insist. I keep thinking I'm going to hookup some fake leads to mine and call it a mini Taser. LOL
I had the same experience with my new one. It seems to be working better than the first one even though it is programed to exactly the same settings. I felt the difference in the OR when they transferred the leads. The Medtronics rep didn't quite know what to say when I mentioned it exactly at the time they made the changeover. One thing I wonder as an engineer is whether the low battery affects the circuits in the pacer, but not enough to trigger the fail safe mode.

I am just thankful that I am alive and that even though I have this pacemaker it is not the end of the world.
