Hello I'm 40 and enjoy hiking kayaking and have 4 young kids. Getting a pacemaker in 2weeks. Will under the skin suffice or does anyone suggest under the muscle? My EP doesn't do under the muscle so I have to be put out and a surgeon does it. Seems more risky. Kind of rather have my EP do it but not sure if under muscle is worth it or not.

Pm placement

Not sure if this is useful or not, but I had my pm implanted in 2018. It was a sudden event so I did not have much time to research, BUT, I too enjoy hiking, and discovered quickly that my almost new backpack has straps that lie right on my pm. Very uncomfortable, and I am going to improvise the backpack to try and alleviate the problem. I am happy with my pm and my EP, but it wasn't till after surgery that I have found others had their pm specifically implanted in a different location for just this reason.
Not sure if it always an option, but maybe something to ask about.
Under Skin

I'm 42 and very active as well. Mine was placed under the skin as I didnt have any time to research options. It's been a couple of months and I barely notice it anymore. It's place under the skin and adjacent to my shoulder. Best wishes

I am just thankful that I am alive and that even though I have this pacemaker it is not the end of the world.
Both work

My first pm was placed under the skin. It started to move so my Dr. then put it sub pectoral. Stayed there for about 10 years. A different Dr. ( I had moved) put my next one under the skin. My pm's since then have never moved even though I am very active. My only word of caution is that a couple of weeks after the sub pectoral pm was removed my pectoral "caved in" so it is more noticeable than the pm under the skin. It is up to you, but if it were me I would go under the skin.
