New Pacemaker

Hi Jo,

I had my PM fitted in early September. I was uncomfortable for several weeks. It was like carrying your mobile phone around in your top pocket. I couldn't sleep on my left side. I was advised not to raise my left arm. Ten or so weeks later however and I'm much more comfortable. The PM has bedded in, I can sleep OK on my left and I've got full movement again. I'm even looking forward to cycling again in the spring. I hope that gives you some encouragement.

I understand the emotional impact. My cardiologists, having seen my Reveal device data, called me in on a Friday and I had the procedure done on the Monday. My heart problems came from out of the blue. I'm relatively young for a PM, not much older than you (I'm 50). I remember feeling low in hospital. I've taken a lot of encouragement from forums such as this. Check out the Pacemaker UK group on FB if you haven't already (I'm in The Midlands). Lots of wonderful people years down the line from you and me sharing their experiences and offering hope for the future. Now I feel positive and I'm determined to put these last few turbulent months behind me. My very best wishes to you :-)

Grieving process...

by BOBTHOM - 2018-11-23 15:13:47

It's all part of the greiving process.  We all go through it.  We've lost part of our "normal" function, we have device implanted inside our bodes, for life.  It's alot to absorb.  Sometimes counseling can help, sometimes just sharing with others helps.  Unfortunately sharing with family and freinds is difficult because we end up spending more time consoling them and getting them not to worry.  It's a strange situation.  For me, reading posts on here, learning about my device and my illness has helped me cope.  Just remember, the device is there to keep you alive, and as intrusive as it is, it beats the alternative.

You know you're wired when...

You have a $50,000 chest.

Yesterday was my first day mountain biking after my implant. I wiped out several times and everything is fine. There are sports after pacemakers!
