Restitutions/ limitations with a pacemaker

Hello everyone,

Does anyone run into any limitations/restrictions with having a pacemaker? My electrophysiologist and my Medtronic owners manaual mention avoiding strong electric or magnetic fields, such as large electrical generators and radiofrequency. Also to avoid full contact activities— taking hits or falling can dislodge pacemaker or shift the wires in the heart.

I’ve had mine for over a yr now with no issues but am in the Army Reserves and am now going through a medical retention board. I was going thru a firefighter academy when my cardiac event occurred and became disqualified because of getting a cardiac implanted device. I’m just curious if there’s anything else I need to be aware of and would just like to hear from others as I’m putting a letter together for my medical board(I’m asking to be retained).

Thanks & best wishes
