More tired than before implant
Hi I had a pacemaker implanted 8/28/18 so it’s only been about 5 wks. I went for a 15 min walk to get lunch today and I am pooped now. I have also started taking 25mg metoprolol at bedtime. Not sure if it’s associated w my tiredness. I am pacing 97% lower chambers and 14% upper. All new to me. I go in for my 6 wk check up next wk and the surgeon will b there to make adjustments if necessary. He said @ surgery if I don’t feel any better (more energy) @ my 6 wk check up he would decrease my pacing. I’m wondering if this will help? Less pacing less work for my heart I’m assuming I’ll have more energy then idk. Kinda frustrating.

Decreased pacing

I was told by my surgeon that the pacemaker leads can weaken the hearts bottom chamber overtime.... therefore if my pacemaker isn’t making me feel any better..more energy then I could be pacing too much. Therefore they could do some fine tuning to the pacemaker to decrease the pacing so the heart doesn’t work overtime unnecessarily. Basically fine tuning it could b the solution. Again I’m not sure if this is what is causing my symptoms or the metoprolol. We shall see.
Tiredness after pacemaker insert

If this has been your first 15 minute walk in those 5 weeks then a bit of muscle loss may be a factor, but I would also suspect the beta blocker is significant. I am 100% paced, so don't have much choice regarding my pacing level, but I had issues with Metoprolol and, after experimenting with a couple of others through my doctor, I have ended up on Nebivolol which has less impact.

Decreased pacing?

Decreasing your pacing doesn't make sense but I would suspect the metoprolol. Some are very sensitive to it (I've been on it over a decade and would love to ditch it). You might ask for a different beta blocker or even a calcium channel blocker.
