new pacer

Had a new Medtronic pacer replaced 2 months ago due to low battery. Leads were ok and I feel ok. But every so often I feel something best described as a pricking sensation which lasts a second or so. I don't remember this with my first pacer. Anyone else have this problem? The hospital where I had the pacer replaced is about a 4 hour plane ride from here so I just can't go to them if it's not real important.
Thanks

Still Feel That

by Artist - 2015-02-18 02:02:46

I'm 3 1/2 months post op and still have occasions where I feel stinging/pricking sensations. They seem to be in the area where the leads connect to the PM. Early on I also felt some sharp poking sensations in the middle of my chest. I attribute that to the increased amperage set in the initial stages to promote tissue scaring and adherence of the leads to the heart wall. The prevalent theory is that the stinging sensations are caused by the nerves severed in the incision healing and regaining function. I don't think that it is anything to worry about, especially if the pacer seems to be functioning normally. Is it possible for your distantly located physician/hospital to transfer your care to a competent cardiologist much nearer to you?

Wishing you luck

I wish I could help. I just got a dual lead pacer implanted on Friday. I posted about my issues as I'm ignorant to all this pain ect...
You should have a hospital near you. I would suggest calling your cardiologist or just going to your nearest ER with your concerns. I wish you luck Kenny.

Yes

Some of us have felt it. It feels like a needle prick or an ant bite and it really hurts right?

I never had it with my original implant either....only after a lead revision surgery.

It's part of the healing process. It may be the nerves knitting back together. After 6-9 months it should stop.

Only on my first, but I felt that biting sensation for the first few months. Still get it occasionally, but nothing like I did in early days.

Thanks for all of your comments. I feel much better knowing that others have had the same symptoms.

Stinging sensation

I have this now and again, and have had my duel pacemaker for several years. My Dr. said several people have also mentioned that, so guess it's not a real problem, except to us who feel it. Blessings.
