Pacing Counts

Hi Folks,

I recently completed my annual pacemaker check and whilst all was satisfactory I couldn't help observing that my (on demand) pacing had reduced from 99% to 98% meaning that now 2 out of every 100 heart beats was taking place naturally and without the pacemaker. This prompted me to ask whether there were instances of people who demonstrated major improvements in pacing and lesser dependency on the pakemaker. The Biotronix rep mentioned he had come across a few people whose pacing had in fact reduced from some 90% to some 50%. I am keen to know if any of you have experienced such dramatic improvements.

Thank you

Shaks

Thgere is a medical term ...

...for what you want - pacing reduced dramatically.  It is called a "Miracle."  98%, 99% - statistically they are the same number!  From your post I cannot tell if you cannot come to terms w/ your heart's state or you are just curious.

If the first, let me quote a man who had just survived a series of cancer treatments - "Life is what happens to you while you are planning the future."

If the second, well, congrats on your intellectual state about our common experience.

ups and downs

Variations are normal, up a little one check, down a little another check. No longer needing it, especially when we pace a lot, is virtually unheard of. Our electrial systems have broken down, there's no way to build it back.

I would question the situation where someone went from 90 to 50, did it happen spontaneously or were their settings changed or medications or something like that. Sometimes the settings are so that the heart is being paced too much, or medications for something like afib make the heart too slow so it paces more. In those cases the heart isn't healing itself, it's unnecessary pacing being eliminated.

Percentages aren't everything

Every year or so, I seem to add a new skip in my heart's rhythm, neccessitating tweaking of my settings. In addition, at one point I demanded that my base rate be increased from 65 to 70. As a result, I felt a lot better, but my percentage paced definitely went up.  When adjustments are made I've seen my percentage paced go up, and down, then up again. I've learned that percentage paced is just one indicator of how things are going.

Let's hope that the reduction from 99 to 98% really does mean your heart is beating a little better. But don't hang any future expecations on that one measure.

All that really matters is how do you feel, and if your heart being paced as often as you need for it to, in order to feel well.

Pacing percentage

My story is this. I started out 2 1/2 years ago pacing 99% . Next check 3 months later I was pacing 78%, 3 months later 44%, 3 months later less then  1 percent and the next 4  visits less then 1 percent...a miracle that no one could explain......then the next check pacing 18% and the next 66% and the last check a few days ago back to 99%...bummer! Nobody can explain.

You know you're wired when...

Your pacemaker interferes with your electronic scale.
