Hi could anyone explain the auto mode on a DDD bi ventricle pacemaker in basic terms. I have had mine turned on and off. It is much better when it is off but I do not fully understand what the mode does.
Thanks

Here is a short discussion. Seems like a good idea but like many other good ideas, the implementation may leave something to be desired.

I had a pacemaker when I was 11. I never once thought I wasn't a 'normal kid' nor was I ever treated differently because of it. I could do everything all my friends were doing; I just happened to have a battery attached to my heart to help it work.
Sorry. No I can't explain it but...

I did find this article https://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1007/978-94-011-5254-9_52
The article explains it and then discusses some of the benefits and pitfalls of auto mode.
I gathered that how well it works depends very much on which type(s) of arrythmia you have.
You can find a general description of the different modes DDD, AAIR etc on youtube. I've lost the URL but typing in pacemaker modes youtube should take you to it.
