Last Monday I had a pacemaker check up and they saw that I am in afib again as from the beginning of March. A hybrid ablation for afib is what caused me to be in need of the pacemaker in the first place.
Because the Biotronic was often tracking my afib by pacing in the ventricles for some time before doing a mode switch they decided to go from DDDR to DDIR.
I feel a little better now, the ‘pounding heart’ in rest has not occured so far and I still seem to be able to exercise. Did a zumba class this afternoon and felt ok.
I am trying to understand the difference between DDDR and DDIR. Is there anyone who can explain that to me?

There is a Youtube video that explains all about the different pacemaker modes---what each of the letters signifies and what the different combinations are doing. Unfortunately I've lost the link.
Try typing into your browser Youtube pacemaker mode setting. Actually there are a lot of Youtube videos that were very helpful to me. I can ususally find one with the technical depth--neither to simple, nor too complex--that I am able to understand.
Thanks

Thanks Gotrhytm and Jimmy. I watched a video on youtube. It is difficult to say the least. My pacer is now in DDI(R) mode. I don't really get how the R works with the DDI modus. Tried to read some ECG's. Cardiology is pretty complicated...
Complicated? You're right...

Always curious, I looked at the video for the first time in a long time. And saw your frustration. It explains all the combinations except DDIR!
Didn't mean to give you a bum steer.
We do have some members who are pacemaker techs. Maybe one of them will chime in with a complete explanation---which hopefully you will understand better because you have watched the video. [smile]

At age 20, I will be getting a pacemaker in few weeks along with an SA node ablation. This opportunity may change a five year prognosis into a normal life span! I look forward to being a little old lady with a wicked cane!

I called Biotronik two weeks ago to get clarification on a different issue. Their telephone number is: 1-800-547-0394. I spoke to a person in their Advanced Product Support.
