I have the Riata lead so I am thinking if I am okay except for the continued shocking I could give it a try until I can get to a hospital, not sure.

I too had the infamous Riata lead, still that shouldn't cause a shock storm. They should be monitoring the lead and take corrective action if anything shows up. All they have to do is shut off the defib worst case until a new lead can be implanted.

Did you have your lead removed? I do have a merlin machine but I live one hour from the hospital and very concerned if it starts showing its ugly head.

The EP and I had a falling out when I demanded he extract my Riata lead when I had a new CRT-D implanted. They wound up taking all the leads and generator out 2 months later when I developed an infection in the site.
Merlin home monitor will allow them to catch any impedance changes and replace the lead before it's a problem for you.

Just because you have a device doesn't mean you are damaged goods and can't do anything worthwhile and have to lie down and die. In fact, you're better and stronger. You're bionic!

Yes, you can get a magnet to deactivate your device. Check with your device manufacturer
That said, just how are you going to know if the shocks are inappropriate? Would tend to ruin your day if you guessed wrong.
By the way refrigerstor magnets don't work well, my wife once stacked 32 on my chest and yet I'm still here
