Hi I’m new here, I have a couple of questions, I’ve just had my ICD battery changed on Wednesday not the leads just battery and ever since my change I’ve felt many skipped beats and extra beats I went to pacing clinic they said there’s nothing on there to be concerned about, your getting around about 50 extra beats an hour they said. I said was there any chance leads could be affecting this, they said not really. I’m also on amiodrome and betablockers I’m really worried that something has changed or happened since battery change, I can’t handle theses pvcs etc ... any ideas thank you

The importance of that agreement is that I am a sufferer of PVC's - big time. It does take time to become accoustomed to irregulariities. It literally took me years to become tolerant of PVC's. I m now to the point that I have to be having them at a rate of about 30% to sense them. You said . some magic words that support Selwyn's advice - that you sense them more whenn you are relaxing. Yep - your mind is not distracted when you are relaxinfg, so you sense every little event out of the ordinary..

Extra beats after ICD change

I expect you take amiodarone and beta-blockers for an arrhythmia. Always after a PM/ICD insertion there is an increased awareness of heart beat. This lasts a couple of weeks. It is anxiety related. We have all experienced the same. If your palpitations were really distressing your could ask your doctor to increase your meds, perhaps? I would just give some time for yourself to get used to the new ICD. Take things easy for a while whilst you are getting over the stress of the procedure. There is no race to health. Avoid caffeine and alcohol as these are know to trigger extra beats.
It is unlikely that your leads have been damaged during the replacement of your box. These are tested at the time and are found to be performing within parameters.
Should the situation not resolve over the next few weeks, then a period of monitoring would be in order. Personally, I have a Kardia® monitor that communicates with my phone. It is handy to catch arrhythmias that occur irregularly.
Nice to have a new state of the art device.
Welcome to the club.
