I just had a Medtronic SureScan (tm) Mri Heart Failure Pacemaker with Defibrillation device implanted last Thursday, July 20th. This morning the device beeped. What could be causing this? I called the doctor and am waiting for his nurse to call me back. Thanks.

Pacemaker beeping

Had my appointment at the device clinic this morning. Apparently the device is working well and my leads are good. However, my device is apparently programmed to give an "English siren" alarm rather than beeps. The technician even called Medtronic and they had no suggestions for why it beeped. When the home monitoring unit comes I am supposed to call the clinic again, transmit a report and have that sent to Medtronic for further study.
i am wondering why, if this home monitoring part is so important, it isn't given out at the same time the pacemaker is implanted. The doctor knows ahead of time what pacemaker he wants to use and if the second device is required. When I wore Medtronic's Life Vest, the home monitoring was given to me at the same time I got the vest. How long will it take to arrive?

I had a Medtronic pm 6 years ago. A few months after I heard a beeping. It happened 3 times in the night. I had got up and checked anything else it could be, but it was definitely coming from inside my chest. I contacted Medtronic next day, also EP. They both assured me that there was no way it could have been from the pm!! I felt silly, but I do know where the sound came from. It has never happened since, so ???.

Thanks. It's hard not to panic, although I feel fine. I talked to the nurse and I have an appointment in the device clinic tomorrow morning. She didn't sound terribly concerned.
