To prevent frozen shoulder it's really important to ditch the sling after a couple of days, and to begin gentle movement of the arm and shoulder, increasing the range of motion a little each day.

I was sent home from the hospital with specific arm stretching exercises to do day 3, day 4 etc. Because I had had a frozen shoulder 25 years ago and didn't want a repeat I was diligent with the exercises.

When I had the frozen shouder, physical therapy was no help at all, but I found a body work specialist in deep tissue massage. With her help I eventually regained full use of the shoulder.

Good luck.

I got a frozen shoulder after my pacemaker surgery.  I could not move my left arm at all without pain.  My doctor sent me for physical therapy at the hospital.  It was wonderful.  Each time the therapist utilized a variety of techniques which gave me a little more movement until I was eventually able to get all movement, strength, and endurance back.   I highly recommend physical therapy!  You cardiologist or family doctor can make the recommendation.

Don't even discuss surgery until you try Physical Therapy. That almost always works.
