Length of Stay

The scheduling nurse told me to plan on staying the night after my implant surgery but there is a slight possibility of going home the same day. The surgery is scheduled for 11 am.

How long was your hospital stay?

What are the chances I will go home the same day? If it helps, I am in Portland, Oregon.

Overnight

I stayed overnight because my EP likes to do a course of antibiotics before you leave.  It's something like 5 different bags in your IV.  Trust me....you'll want to stay and make sure everything is ok.  I did.

My very first one I was in the hospital for 4 days.  But my replacements I went home the same day.    My last one was put in Feb 2012 out in California.  So when my next one goes in it will happen here in Oregon.

Hi there

l had my pacemaker put in October last, here in the u.k and went home the same day, after check up, x ray and a antibiotics

i think it is common practice not to stay in hospital if all goes well and you have somebody to drive you home and be with you at home

in my case, it felt good to be in my own bed at night!

hope this helps, best wishes ❤️

In the US, it's common to stay overnight. In the morning, they do a device check to see that all is well and an xray to make sure the leads haven't moved, then send us home.

When I had a box change without leads, I was home by lunch time.

To ER at 8 AM. To surgery at noon for PM impkant.  In a hospital room by 2:30 PM.  Home before noon the next day.  Glad I stayed overnight for my own peace of mind.

Same day

Mine was outpatient, same day.  They originally tried to do my PM while I was inpatient during a week long hospital stay.  My procedure was canceled twice, and later became outpatient.

Same day

I'm in Atlanta, just had mine in Monday, and it was a same day outpatient procedure - in at 10 for prep, procedure around 1, done around 2:30, left around 5:30. No xray was necessary because the pacemaker programmer was able to confirm the leads had contact. Was more comfortable coming home but I had family with me.
