Good evening,
Has anyone have the issue of PM or ICD wearing skin thin with potential danger of coming out? Or the wire is protruding with the danger of breaking off the skin leading to serious infection?
My husband was put in a pacemaker in 2015, within 11 months he went through second surgery to replace PM with an ICD. A year later after the ICD was put in, he was told that he would need another surgery to fix his wire protruding issue. We have noticed that his ICD is wearing his skin thin and looks like it is going to come out as well. Isn't this crazy?? We are very upset and worried about the situation. We want to make sure after the third time surgery within 2 years time, he will not have to go through this again until the battery life is due which is in 7-8 years.
I would like to know if you have similar experience or comments on this.
Thank you so much,
Braveheart

...................unsettling as this is...what I call'Breakout' is not unusual.
My pacemaker made a valiant job to break free and I had a 'Reposition Op'......following a lead infection I had a new set up with a Right Hand position....all went very well....Now...
I am a runner and my first LH Box never felt right as it bounced about while I ran...
My RH Box was sutured in so it is very well fixed in and I am subsequently totally unaware of it while running or going about any daily physical ...
I recommend suturing to anyone with an active physical life.
Get looked at pronto Braveheart...
Let us know how it went...as I said, its not that unusual..but really not wanted

In fact after the final "tweaks" of my pacemaker programming at the one year check up it is working so well that I forget I have it.

Wow! Braveheart, you seem very concerned, and I think concern is certainly appropriate with what you have described. How experienced/successful is the medical care with implanting devices? If it were me, I would be looking for different medical care. I am on my second ICD. Either there are other issues relating to this, I am not reading your post correctly or there is a serious medical care problem. You are very wise to be concerned.
